  1. that does sound like a good idea, the only problem for me personally is that HD space is scarce for me. I back up movies too much and can't bear to get rid of them. CD's in image form would be too much space. Plus music listening for me is half ritual. I kind of like puting in a cd and taking it out.
  2. Thanks for the heads up. I see 4 string quartets in his body of work. I'll have to give them a try.
  3. I'm going to go to my local record store and pick all 5 of those up. I'm sure I'll fall in love with him I just didn't want to start off on the wrong foot and not give him another chance for a few years. I did that with John Cage in the mid 90's but now love him dearly. Thanks for your recommendations and anybody else wants to add anything than feel free.
  4. I have never listened to Stravinsky but want to. Some of my favorite composers are 20th century composers and Stravinsky is almost always spoken of with high regard. The problem is that I don't know where to start. What pieces do you like a lot or what do you think I should start with?
  5. That was my feeling too but I'm very ignorant in such matters and I couldn't tell you what happens from when a CD is ripped to when a CD is burned but I imagine it involves a magic carpet (or bus), a genie and one or more of the lovable puppets from H.R. Puffinstuff.
  6. jesus christ, you guys have been giving newbs a baptism by fire lately. I'm glad I somehow fall through the cracks wherever I go.
  7. CD cases are the scourge of all media. Who the fuck designed those pieces of shit and why weren't the publicly executed? I started keeping my CDs in books and throwing out the jewel case about 7 years ago and haven't stessed myself out with that stupid hinge since.
  8. Thanks for the reply. I'm using EAC to rip and burning it a 4x so good times. Here's to a tedious week of burning cds!
  9. When you burn a cd from a cd is there a loss of fidelity? A friend of mine who is a questionable source said that there is but couldn't back up his claim with anything but "I read it somewhere". I'm thinking about backing up my library on CDR this week and wondering if loss of fidelity is a problem and if there is a way to prevent it. I currently can't hear any difference but my ears are constantly learning (or arguably hallucinating) new things all the time. I don't want to do it if a few years from now I can hear the difference between the two. Thanks, Aaron
  10. hd650>silver sr325's>shure e5c, that wasn't difficult at all.
  11. That's solid.
  12. I'm going to go see this movie tomorrow: http://olympiafilmfestival.org/movieDetail.asp?id=4 It's a scene for scene adaptation of indiana jones made by teenagers in the 80's on their camcorder.
  13. You're totally right. Wikipedia to the rescue again.
  14. Of course that's just a urban legend. somebody was bound to post mama cass sooner or later, I was just getting it out of the way.
  15. lupus is what killed flannery o'connor. Why is the disease lupus called lupus which is wolf in latin anyway?
  16. zu oxyfuel rca cables
  17. Thanks and I like the 710 too especially since I only paid $40 for it at a pawn shop going out of business.
  18. I finally got this guy from fed ex this morning but have only listened to a few CD's on it. So far I like it over my old amp which was an SR-71 [sic] and sick. I'm using this amp with my only piar of reference headphones that I have on me right now which are HD650s. When I get my sr325's back I'll see how this amp pairs with them. I'm using them out of a harman/kardon hd710. This is the most laid back amp I've heard, though it should be noted that I haven't heard a lot. There is a real focus on the midrange and upper midrange. Trebble is present but this amp is by no means forward. This amp produces little bass and what bass there is has little punch. That's the only thing I miss from ray's little amp but I'm sure that I'll get used to it in the next few months. Vocals are as smooth as I've heard. While listening to Joanna Newsom's album Y's her voice usually can be more than a little shrill to me at times but now, even at it's peak never drills into my brain. Her breathy quality really comes out as well. I decided to test just how laid back this amp is by putting in my most clipping-est, peeking-est music I own. First I put the microphones album The Glow Pt. 2 and then some of my older billy holiday recording. I can finally listen to Billie Holiday again. Although all the distortion is still there it never becomes overbearing. The warmth of her recording is also so much more noticeable. I've never had a chance to listen to a great vinyl rig but I can only imagine that this is why some people prefer vinyl over CD. There is something about warmth that makes music more enjoyable to me. The Microphones album also sounds really good. almost every part of this album has a lethal level of almost every type of distortion either through the recording proses through mixing. All the clipping and mic peaking is still there it just isn't grating on me. This could all be caused by the euphoria of having a new piece of gear though. Every time I really like something headphone related my experience of music tends to be magnified for the next couple of days. We'll see how I like it this weekend after the weight of the word is crushing me again.
  19. look at that curved, huntched back, fat and formless legs and flat long feet. If that bunny is running while standing erect then he doesn't have a chance. those front appendages are being used as hands so if he's going to be on all fours then he'd be disqualified since this is after all a foot race.
  20. I'm rewatching 2001 and am loving how this looks in high def more than the first time. This is the first time since getting a 720p lcd TV that I'm truly impressed. It even looks better than the old 32mm print I used to watch when I projected at an old art theater after hours. I think I'm going to bestbuy tomorrow and picking up a copy for myself.
  21. It only sucked for the first two days anyway. Now I don't even see it unless my OCD is acting up or I"m bored of the movie/show I"m watching. I'm lucky in that the stuck pixel's location is almost at the very left edge of my screen about 3 pixels in.
  22. I decided to watch solaris again today.
  23. I started sitting farther back and even though I can still see it durring black scenes I've gotten used to it enough to where I'm not staring at it durring the whole movie. If I'm luck it'll go away after a while like other stuck pixels I've had on my LCD monitor. I"m going to keep a color flashing program on at all times when I'm at work in hopes to remedy it.
  24. No, having one stuck pixel doesn't fall under warrenty. No manufacturers consider that to be a failure. I can't remember the exact amount but it takes a lot of stuck or dead pixels for a manufacturer to replace your screen.
