  1. Happy birthday, Tice-Man!
  2. Drive to survive, but NASCAR? Yeah, I enjoyed this. Only 5 episodes so short and sweet. Sadly this does almost nothing to educate race-curious people like me on their sport. I know there is strategy, skill, and cool engineering that goes in to oval track racing but you get none of it here. The difference between NASCAR and F1 also couldn't be more stark. Still, this was fun and I recommend it.
  3. Pre-gamed the Super Bowl by doing the San Francisco grand tour with a buddy. She really is a magnificent city!
  4. I went and did the demo at my local Apple Store. Expectations were low but I tried to keep an open mind. Wow! First gen product, but this feels like it could be the future of computing. This is as impressive a demo as seeing something like HDR for the first time. There is an amazing amount of polish for a first gen product. The video pass-through latency is supposedly under 12ms and feels quick enough as to almost be imperceptible. The hand and eye tracking are great. The ability to tune out the outside world worked very well, even in a busy Apple Store. This is so much more impressive than the Oculus products, but for what it costs it had damn well better be! Downsides? I want even more resolution than this. The FOV is good but not great. The apps that have been optimized for it are amazing, but most are just ported iPad apps. I also (nerd alert) found the foveated rendering very noticeable as to the high and low rez rendering and the drop off between the two. Biggest downside is the cost. $3.5k is just a ton of money. If it was closer to $1k I’d be a lot more tempted to splurge. Also, if this ever worked with Windows PCs for Sim Racing and Flight Simulators I’d buy it right now.
  5. ^ surprisingly good. Wish more people had watched it.
  6. I don't know. It seems like a very cool toy, but priced at least 3x higher than what I'd pay. That being said, once they allow for public demo sign ups I'm going to at least try it at the store.
  7. First few episodes of Masters of the Air were pretty solid. Reminds me a lot of the movie Greyhound, in a good way. Not overly sentimental and gets to the point.
  8. Hamilton to Ferrari? I hate this! https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/39434562/lewis-hamilton-talks-shock-switch-ferrari-sources
  9. ZZ Top Essentials I dig that Apple Music has these artist essentials playlists with most of the hits included. Throw them on shuffle and enjoy. Today, some Texas boogie! https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/zz-top-essentials/pl.18bef26aad9941c682a190d0ac7f7a1d
  10. RIP Charles Osgood. Host of CBS Sunday mornings and voice of the Osgood file on CBS Radio. My parents used to have the local CBS affiliate on the radio all the time in both their cars. Charles' voice is as comforting as a warm blanket. I must have heard him on air hundres of times. https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/23/us/charles-osgood-death/index.html
  11. Through two episodes the new season (the 4th) has been pretty good. Jodie F quite a catch for them. I love the Alaska setting.
  12. Thanks, everyone! I’ve had my phone off all day as I’ve been… you guessed it, at the race track! Chasing down a new Civic Type R on track in my practical family SUV not a bad way to spend a birthday!
  13. This is interesting. I have no read on how this thing is going to do in 5-10 years time. Could see it flopping hard, could also see it succeeding. Obviously the price is going to need to come down a lot, but the product does seem at least a little compelling. 🤷‍♂️ https://www.apple.com/apple-vision-pro/guided-tour/
  14. Happy usual birthday!
  15. She ain't dead. It was her sister, who had cancer.

    Get your game on!

It is very intimidating, but I'm taking it one bite at a time. I have no idea how all these other people are so good at driving. I don't feel like I'm doing badly but I'm way off the pace of the leaders.
  17. Glad for her fans. For the rest of us who are agnostic, hope we see a bit less of her in 2024. It has been suffocating, to say the least.
  18. Pitchfork's Top 100 songs of 2023 is here. There are some interesting choices up and down the list but I'm in 100% agreement with them on song #1. It is a stunner when you hear it for the first time. My favorite Lana song, easily. https://pitchfork.com/features/lists-and-guides/best-songs-2023/
