  1. I'd love to have some of my own Grado's for said meet, but I'll probably be waiting until after Christmas to get my recabled/EnABL'ed Alessandro Grado Ms-Pro Magnum Titan Thundercougarfalconbird Extreme Platinum's...
  2. I don't find the K271S to be as bass shy as most, though they will sound pretty thin with bad/no amplification. Bass boost could certainly tweak it though. I agree that the K271S doesn't sound exactly like the K81DJ, but most of the differences are in the K271S' favour. The K81DJ has way more bass than the K271S, but then it has way more bass than pretty much every headphone I've heard save the DT770. The velour pads may help with the bass as well, I know they did with my K340s.
  3. Based on the sound alone, what is different/worse?
  4. Well, if you like the sound of the K81DJ's, but not the comfort, it does get better as you get used to them. I've also heard some people finding the sennheiser velour pads more comfortable, but I've yet to try them. Otherwise, I don't really have a recommendation for you. The K271S would be a good fit, especially with the velour pads, but they are significantly less portable and pretty much demand that you use a portable amp.
  5. Either camp can get really bad. I don't understand why people can't be civil there. I mean, here we swear and enjoy a good insult or two, but it is all in good fun rather than malicious.
  6. Because that is what they are. They were reverse engineered from a pair of HE90s. As for why they sound different... maybe they didn't do a good job or they made changes that were detrimental or the different headband assembly creates a different fit.
  7. It really depends on how dificult a load you are trying to drive. I'm pretty much with you as long as the needs of the driver are being met and you're not using a shit design or power supply. The worse the amp, the more 'difference' in the sound. When you get into the high end stuff it just comes down to what it can drive and what it cant IMO. I think you'll find good company here. Yeah, there are one or two.
  8. They sound great, the cherry finish looks lovely, are reasonably easy to drive, and don't really require a sub. I've never heard the Kef's though and am not sure if anyone on here has experience with both.
  9. I'm guessing it is either the Constantine or that shuttle PC.
  10. I think that the differences between different pairs of RS-1s and different pairs of MS-Pros are larger than the differences between the two models. I believe that the RS-1 and the MS-Pro we had at the Salamanca meet were both 'new stock'. I remember hearing bigger differences between that really nice old pair of RS-1s and the new pair that were at one of my Hamilton meets.
  11. I have an ultra low output Reference cart for sale if you're interested Post. The FS thread is over on head-fi.
  12. Yup, the chassis wouldn't even have to be that much more fancy. While you're at it, get those XLRs together and either right or levt justify the biasing controls, while making them more inconspicuous.
  13. His eyes always seem to glow when I catch him in gear pics. Here is an old one where the same thing happened: As for the amp, it looks a lot better now, as evidenced in this thread.
  14. Hmmm, I guess I've just had good luck with mine. Maybe that transport kit that Nate made might be an option?
  15. Score one for poor reading comprehension! Who's your daddy?
  16. Good call on the blue strip. I got some surprisingly good shots of Penny there [That would be the mom, Penny Lane] with that crappy camera. We have a third cat as well, but he is a little too spastic to get in a headphone picture... though he makes a good lap cat.
  17. Yeah, score one for me! Who's your daddy?
  18. Sorry to hear that buddy. Maybe a good DAC is the way to go then? At least then you know what you are getting.
  19. I'm very fond of the Polk Audio RTi4's, and even with speaker stands they should fit within your budget if you find a set used. T-amps are always good for amplification.
  20. Oh, it's Parts Connexions mod company. I thought they just threw zapfilters on everything. Looks like they've stepped up their game.
  21. So... I gave proper advice about vinyl? This day is getting really weird. \
  22. Happy Thanksgiving! A little late for me though.
  23. Yeah, but what you don't see in my avatar is the hands holding him down. His mom is a bit more docile and didn't require such drastic measures. Feel free to LOLcat any of these pics, my wife would love it.
  24. I'd love to. For what it's worth, I've definately heard the positive effects power conditioning can have... just have yet to hear the negatives I guess. Cables definately make a difference, no question there. Well, when I used my UPC-200 with my Lavry DAC, it turned it from a DAC1 [bleh] to a high end source. The positive difference was staggering. I've still yet to try taking it out of the loop with my current source, but I'll let you know once I do. I have tried my amp straight into the wall and out of the UPC-200 and it sounds identical either way... so I just leave it hooked up to the UPC-200 for convenience. It has a dual zone mode where the source and amp are on separate circuits.
