  1. There are always exceptions to the rule. I think it is more likely, in this case, that Jay is just in a bitchy mood.
  2. Me too, no joking there.
  3. DRM, twice as thick as the competition, weighs more, has a useless keyboard, wireless is basically useless, looks like a bunch of birds shit it out. I can't understand why anyone would choose the Kindle over the Cybook Bookeen.
  4. I didn't find them that way when I owned them, but who knows. People change.
  5. Though I really like the banner, the icon just looks meh.
  6. Cool, I'll check those out. I really like 'The Capitol Automatic' on the Nixon page.
  7. Nice, now where do I sell my kidney?
  8. What, no $750 EH-1.2's?
  9. It very well could be, but so far folks seem to be leaning the other way.
  10. Wow, those skeleton watches are cool. Any more links or models? I want one!
  11. Can you buy them without the amp? Thanks for the preliminary impressions. I wonder if the guy would do custom work? I'd love to have a cableless pair sent to Alex for a recable and then from there to swt/warrior/fitz/wualta/spritzer for a massive tweak fest.
  12. Thanks, I'll check that out.
  13. d-_-b Cool
  14. I'd love to have some of my own Grado's for said meet, but I'll probably be waiting until after Christmas to get my recabled/EnABL'ed Alessandro Grado Ms-Pro Magnum Titan Thundercougarfalconbird Extreme Platinum's...
  15. I don't find the K271S to be as bass shy as most, though they will sound pretty thin with bad/no amplification. Bass boost could certainly tweak it though. I agree that the K271S doesn't sound exactly like the K81DJ, but most of the differences are in the K271S' favour. The K81DJ has way more bass than the K271S, but then it has way more bass than pretty much every headphone I've heard save the DT770. The velour pads may help with the bass as well, I know they did with my K340s.
  16. Based on the sound alone, what is different/worse?
  17. Well, if you like the sound of the K81DJ's, but not the comfort, it does get better as you get used to them. I've also heard some people finding the sennheiser velour pads more comfortable, but I've yet to try them. Otherwise, I don't really have a recommendation for you. The K271S would be a good fit, especially with the velour pads, but they are significantly less portable and pretty much demand that you use a portable amp.
  18. Either camp can get really bad. I don't understand why people can't be civil there. I mean, here we swear and enjoy a good insult or two, but it is all in good fun rather than malicious.
  19. Because that is what they are. They were reverse engineered from a pair of HE90s. As for why they sound different... maybe they didn't do a good job or they made changes that were detrimental or the different headband assembly creates a different fit.
  20. It really depends on how dificult a load you are trying to drive. I'm pretty much with you as long as the needs of the driver are being met and you're not using a shit design or power supply. The worse the amp, the more 'difference' in the sound. When you get into the high end stuff it just comes down to what it can drive and what it cant IMO. I think you'll find good company here. Yeah, there are one or two.
  21. They sound great, the cherry finish looks lovely, are reasonably easy to drive, and don't really require a sub. I've never heard the Kef's though and am not sure if anyone on here has experience with both.
  22. I'm guessing it is either the Constantine or that shuttle PC.
  23. I think that the differences between different pairs of RS-1s and different pairs of MS-Pros are larger than the differences between the two models. I believe that the RS-1 and the MS-Pro we had at the Salamanca meet were both 'new stock'. I remember hearing bigger differences between that really nice old pair of RS-1s and the new pair that were at one of my Hamilton meets.
  24. I have an ultra low output Reference cart for sale if you're interested Post. The FS thread is over on head-fi.
  25. Yup, the chassis wouldn't even have to be that much more fancy. While you're at it, get those XLRs together and either right or levt justify the biasing controls, while making them more inconspicuous.
