  1. Gah, people posting 4070 > O2 in the Stax thread!? The 4070 is for people who like listening to a "feed" instead of music. Stax should've printed "For Android Use Only" on the side of the 4070 instead of "Monitor." Well, I know that's what they really meant.
  2. Hey, quite a nice discussion going on here! I see that Beefy DIY's his own DACs. I'm probably at the other extreme from this, I can barely use a multimeter to bias tubes. I even forgot about doing so after getting a BHSE because it didn't have convenient receptacles for the probes. However, I also use a "lowly" PC-as-transport, though I don't understand why it's described as lowly. I have nothing against Mac or Amarra, haven't tried it. I use foobar with SoX resampler -> RME HDSPe AES -> dual AES -> Esoteric D-05. I need the resampler in order to utilize the dual AES output of the sound card. I'm also using the G-03x clock. I'm guessing that Amarra's effects, given the descriptions I've read, are probably similar to the effect of using the clock in my system. It's not a big difference, but it's one of those things that after you've experience it you don't want to revert back, kind of like watching "HD" and "even more HD" on TV. If this is the case, and I'm totally guessing here, I would think that the price for Amarra is reasonable. I think the OP should try a Mac-based system and iTunes. Foobar is not easy to use, especially for a typical middle-aged audiophile-type with more money than brains (given almost-zero brains). Wait, I'm talking about myself, not the OP. Oh, I also think the OP should get rid of the SRD7 (I have SRD7 Mk2), the Raptor (I owned one), and maybe the Lehmann BCL too (I've owned one since 2005) and buy a BHSE.
  3. First venture into electrostats is already a KGSS?! Dude, you are a prime candidate for a Blue Hawaii. Don't even bother with anything else, I know you won't be satisfied. How do I know? Trust me, I know. Go Blue Hawaii, HeadAmp built version.
  4. It's OK. I use it with a Zana Deux, I sold off an AT-HA5000. But there are many headphones I like more, including the W5000. "Many" meaning at least 12, or maybe 15? I think hating them is a bit extreme, but this is HC after all. Hate. Hate. Hate. Hate. Try saying it very fast many times. Ow, my cheeks hurt.
  5. I have one of the Sieveking Omega wood headphone stands that look like an "omega" symbol. It does work with the O2, but I don't think it is 100% a good fit. The headphone sits fine on the stand and there isn't a lot of pressure on the earpads, but it seems a bit low and I would prefer a little bit more space at the bottom for the cable entry points. The Stax-brand wood stands are a little high for a reason, which is to provide plenty of clearance at the cable entry points so there's no chance of any pressure there.
  6. Hehe, I'm listening to SR-Omega + BHSE right now. I don't understand how anyone can sell off an SR-Omega...
  7. Hmm, it seems the administrators and upkeepers of this site, whoever they are, have made some changes. As evidenced by this thread, they also seem to be somewhat responsive to user inputs and requests too. OK then. Please enable the functionality for me, and only me, to edit the text under my username. I know this functionality exists, I did it once, you can't fool smarty me, you big nincompoops. Do it for my account only, immediately or at least before lunch. I shall be patient and ponder about what I wish to call myself. You have 8 hours.
  8. Notification: Your choice of style of hair may be counter-productive to the goal of listening to headphones. The ideal hairstyle of a headphone listener is bald. Second best is a military-style buzzcut. Namely, no hair or very little hair is best. This advice also applies to hair in areas other than your head. Regards, Your friendly Headphone Listening Barber Association
  9. Yawn. Is this really such a big deal? The Tonight Show, blech. Jay Leno Show, blah. Letterman, not so interesting anymore. Is he getting old or am I? Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert FTW!
  10. I'm happy to support your raffle. I'm no DIYer and it was the first time I visited the Twisted Pear website. Hmm, I'm getting some ideas.
  11. I've been using a Thecus N5200 for about three years. It's easy to use and I've had no problems with it. The webpage configuration pages are a bit clunky. The seven bay N7700 model is very nice. One good thing about network storage is that you can put the box almost anywhere, it doesn't have to be near a computer. I would use eSATA for drives directly attached to a computer. I recently bought two WD Caviar Green 1.5TB drives, they're nice and quiet. I thought 2TB drives are still a bit expensive.
  12. I didn't like the few NOS units I've heard. Smooth-sounding and full-bodied, but it can be a bit too much. Also lacking in details and comparatively sluggish-seeming. Hmm, that's kind of like me, actually. I have a smooth head, I'm full-bodied and definitely very sluggish. Aargh, I don't like myself.
  13. Hi everybody, it's 2010! Still discussing Stax stuff, I see.
  14. What, is no one going to post what they received? So what did you all get?
  15. Wow, the Brahem is great and the more I listen the more I like St. Vincent. This is music I wouldn't have known about otherwise. How is Sherwood already familiar with this obscure stuff? Oh, well, obscure to me at least. The Master Music label is popular in East Asia, you can also find them on eBay Hong Kong-based sellers. Hehe, these are actually some of my favorites. Does this mean I have good taste in music?
  16. I had to refer to Wikipedia to look up what instrument the artist is playing. It is called an oud. I especially like listening to strummed string instruments with a good headphone system. Electrostatics in particular render the picks, plucks and strums very well. The details in the attack and decay of the notes comes through and I can almost think I'm hearing the sound from each individual string during a strum. Gah, this artist has a large discography. For the first time in a long while, I have hope that my affliction of horrible taste in music can be cured, or at least somewhat alleviated.
  17. Yay, I received the package today. It's definitely stuff I've never heard before. I suspected that I was lucky to have a good exchange partner and I was right! There are two CDs, haha. I think I still like Leona Lewis - Echo more, but this stuff is quite good too.
  18. I would like to request that everyone please refrain from posting what you received. Why? I'm afraid that I would be too curious about everyone else's gifts and have to go buy more music. Please help me save some money. I'm gonna go look up "XTC - Apple Venus Volume 1" now. So what the heck is it? What's this weird stuff? I guess it isn't Top 40 like Rihanna?

    DEXTER

    John Lithgow is scary!

    Men of a Certain Age

It used to be that most of the characters in TV and movies were older than me. Then, only a few were. Now, most are younger and I can't stand them. At least there's this new show, and House.

    DEXTER

No way! C'mon, I might have musical tastes equivalent to a 13 year-old girl's, but that doesn't mean I like that Twilight stuff. All those girls swooning over so-called "vampires", blech. They're not real vampires, they're cleaned-up romance fantasy-vampires made safe with none of the nasty liabilities. I could go for an Underworld vampire, though. You're right, I posted that bored stuff just before watching S04E09, the Thanksgiving episode. Now it looks like things are picking up some! S04E10 just aired a few hours ago, it should be interesting.

    DEXTER

Hahaha, nobody posting here, I knew that everyone else was becoming as bored as I was.
  23. I can also take an international if necessary, we have to stick together versus the horde, you know. But the processed cheese makes me feel so good! Young and energetic and sexy! Leona Lewis is so OMG wow! Eh, maybe it's the O2+BHSE system that's good, not the music? Yeah, I like Shpongle too, and a lot of other stuff. About the only things I don't listen to are scary hardcore stuff like thrash/heavy metal and most rap. Motley Crue or "Ice Ice Baby" are OK, though.
  24. Yes, yes, I already have all the Rihanna... and Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, Natalie Imbruglia, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne, Lindsay Lohan, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, etc. Haha, someone's going to do a search and end up here. I'm a bit sad my exchange partner is apparently not so fond of Rihanna, but I think I can dig up some old Milli Vanilli CDs instead. Yay, I'm so happy I'm going to get a CD! It's going to be just as good as Rihanna, I know it!
