Uh from all reports, aka Dreadhead and others, the GS-X sounds amazing with the HD800s.

Yeah I've heard both dynalo(s) and a dynahi side by side. Right now I only have a gilmore balanced reference and a dynahi currently so I haven't compared balanced to balanced... but up until recently I had a gilmore lite and a gilmore v2 as well. My dynahi has a sigma22 for a power supply and the gilmore lite is a version 2 gilmore lite with no dps. The gilmore v2 is somewhere in between a gilmore lite and a gs-1... The gilmore balanced reference has a nicer power supply than the GS-X I think. With ad2k/qualias/w5k the dynahi stomps all over the gilmore lite and the gilmore v2. The balanced reference however holds its own. Compared to the lite the dynahi had a much wider soundstage. You'd hear exactly where the soundstage ends with the lite while there seemingly were no limits to the dynahi. If a sound is placed really damn far away, then it would show up there. With the lite it seemed like there was a defined point on the left and right side where sounds will not show up further no matter the recording. The dynahi also had much better mids, was more impactful and had way better bass. The v2 was about the same as the lite, but had much improved bass and better mids. The gilmore balanced reference has the same sort of "infinite" soundstaging like the dynahi, but is more laid back. It isn't as punchy as the dynahi.. Everything else is about on par. The dynahi mighttt still have the slight edge on bass and mids, but really it's less certain. It's a toss up which I like better. Need my dynamight and my balanced dynafet asap. Overall the dynahi seemsss a little bit faster but that might just be the punchiness.

No there are plenty fo people who've paid that for 1600s. It's really pretty rare I think you only see ~3 on sale a year

DDE has a good digital filter pmd100 and a great dac chip, the AD1862. Unfortunately it's passive i/v and has a shitty output stage. The i/v is especially hard to fix via mods... output stage too so sayeth cetoole who has one. http://www.audioasylum.com/images/DDE3.pdf

I think so. Some people feels it plateaus real fast though, but my personal experience is that I've heard quite a bit of variance between several sources that I thought were all good and could be considered top tier.

ZDT. Yeah I went with "it" because I thought I had quoted oatmeal's post which was in response to my post which indicated which I thought sound bettered. Oops.

I think it sounds better.. no idea how it measures.

I forget if the ZDT comes with tubes or not but at 2.5k or 2.6k or whatever with the ZD new at 2.2k with output tubes (Or is it more for the SE?)... ZDT is a no brainer for me. It's a flat out superior amp single ended to single ended even. Then again I base my experience on the nautilus and the ZDT is supposed to be quite improved from the nautilus.

Yeah the ZDT does not sound "tubier" imo. It's very musical but its also extremely precise and detailed.
