  1. A truly memorable recording of the Chopin Fantasie-Impromptu Op. 66; and a world reknown interpreter of Franz Liszt. If you haven't heard Georges Cziffra you should check him out - the youngest person ever admitted to the Franz Liszt Academy which he entered at age 9. His interpretations are primarily in the older Romantic style tending towards the daring, dramatic and emotional. Stunning technical prowess, and a giant among the greats of 20th Century piano.
  2. Superb single malts were served, Pete's foccacia was flavorful, and Marv's short ribs were sublime. The T2 was terrific and the Stax were the max. A good time was had by all. And who knew you could source 24/192 FLAC from a 1st gen iPad.
  3. Anne Akiko Meyers "Air - the Bach Album" 24/96 flac The standout cut is the Bach Concerto for Two Violins (BWV 1043) - she plays both parts, and on two different Stradavarii that she owns personally. 1st Violin part played on the 1697 ex-Molitor/Napoleon, which she recently purchased for $3.6M USD. 2nd Violin part played on the 1730 Royal Spanish - overdubbed while wearing a set of cans (wish I knew which ones).
  4. ^ Hmmm...full of American size medium
  5. Done. Here's the replacement L-2 photo. If this doesn't pass muster, please let me know.
  6. Nate, I added Doug's L-2 and DSHA-1 amps to the Head Gear section next door. I used the L-2 photo from your InnerFidelity article. If you or Tyll consider this a a violation of permissible use policy please let me know and I'll pull the photo post haste. T.
  7. Listening and watching - 3rd movement of Concerto 3 still my fave. Can't beat the sound of blu.
  8. OK - I'm officialy a bone-head. Pulling pic post: "Anyone else getting sucked into the Pinterest vortex?" blessingx already has a separate thread on this topic -->
  9. Well said Nate. I would also grant Doug a nod to Dieter Ram's "Good design is as little design as possible". As noted by Nate, there is a simple elegance and design economy to Doug's work that pays homage to Louis Sullivan's "form ever follows function". Both inside and out. I'm not sure how much shorter a signal path can get, and still get the job done.
  10. Can sympathize. Degree in BioChem. Love those Orgo midterms: This test will constitute 60% of your final grade. 1. Show the reation pathway for the synthesis of DNA using naturally occuring molecules of three carbons or less: only standard laboratory reagents may be used (show your work). You have 30 minutes.
  11. And make sure you have enough Charmin on hand to restore the recessed mids after the failed right woofer gets replaced on RMA.
  12. Congrats Mike, that's truly great news. Both my son and daughter-in-law went to American University Washington College of Law. Both obtained quality positions immediately after graduation. There are certain advantages in going to a top tier law school, and your daughter will do as well or better. I'd advise you start start saving now for the Kaplan BAR review course that she's sure to ask for upon graudation - another $3K on top of what you're already spending; but well worth the investment. BTW- sitting for the BAR in NY is de-rigueur for graduates of top schools. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.
  13. Just to close the loop on this thread. Several folks in this and other HC posts recommended NAD; and that's exactly where I went (apparently it's the FOTW). NAD M51 DAC into an ECP DSHA-1. I'll post a mini-review after I've done some critical listening.
  14. Here's looking at you kid. Wishing you all the best.
  15. Wishing you many more - and one of these.
  16. FWIW - Based on a recent audition of jvlgato's LCD2r1, I have what I believe to be a non-veiled LCD3 from the initial batch. So at least some of these turned out OK. Be happy to bring them to the next SoCal meet, whenever that happens. LCD3 Serial #2312462 FR chart
  17. Just bought these for driving the LCD-3s, should have in hand Friday. Tyll - I'd be happy to send you this rig w the Cardas Clear Lite XLR inteconnects to use as part of your LCD-3 review; but none of this will have been burned in yet.
  18. Own the 3s, and just listened to 2r1s on SS and Tube (both amps having similar topology) and preferred the SS. The SS seemed to handle the bass better.
  19. At least I'm not buying the Audioquest WEL Signatures
