So if the HFI-780 and D2000 are trashed, what's left?
I've never heard the ES7s. How is the isolation? The ESW9s don't isolate all that well. RedSky, if isolation is a main concern, do you have anything against iems, which certainly isolate better than any closed can I know. I can recall, in general, what they sound like:

Any hockey fans?
I grew up on hockey. My parents, for a time, owned a couple rinks that minor league teams like the Flint Generals (Michigan) used for practice, along with a lot of the kids' leagues and figure skaters, etc. I used to work in the pro shop and the concession stand, or was stuck cleaning the bathrooms or whatever else they told me I doing that day. Both my brothers played, and my younger brother played in a travel league, mostly to places in Ontario as I remember. I even played Ringette when I was about 13, but wasn't any good. I really like hockey, but haven't followed it in a while. Don't know why. Maybe because it's expensive to go to live games. Maybe because we get a lot of NHL players at my rehab. With the exception of one, they and their families have all been nightmares. Mostly likely, I just have other things to do with my time. I'd still love to see a live game, though. That's always good.

Happy Birthday Voltron and Smeggy!
Well, you're both old, and since you've had years of practice, you might as well celebrate right. Hope you have a great day!

Welcome to head-case, DogFish. The HFI-780s are a craptastic waste of money!

I'm doing custom stamps for in the real invitations. I wasn't planning on doing these at all, but I had to get something out fast since the date is June 7th. Had a time and nice place booked, was renting a room in a local movie theater to show one of their favorite movies plus some family stuff, and my mother up and canceled the venue because one friend of theirs would have trouble getting up the stairs without telling me or bothering to check into availability of others. I had nothing to put on the invites. Just got that taken care of this afternoon, but now can't do the movie theater. It's hard to plan a party in Michigan when you live in Florida and the only other willing-to-help sibling lives in Texas.

:prettyprincess: Last thing I bought? Pre-invitations ("save the date" postcards) for my parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary and a bunch of stamps. A friend made them for me. I hope my folks will like what I picked. The actual invites will be a bit more formal. Here's the front. The actual postcard looks much better and has slightly rounded corners. The back, with the words, is actually the best part, but since I'm not much into putting out my address, which is on it, on the internet, you'll have to imagine it.

Ultrasone HFI-780
I've had the same experience with the Darth Beyers and switching from 5998s to 6528 tubes. I guess I'm just having a hard time reconciling the nasty sound I heard with the idea they can able to be helped by much of anything except full mods, let alone expecting a 35ohm headphone to be helped by a speaker amp. If someone's willing to try, and it works, more power (bad pun) to them. BTW, the RP-22X (I owned them for a short while) sounded better to my ears than the 780s.

best headfi thread I have read in a long time!
Absolutely none. He thinks he's perfect and everyone else is messed up.

Lathes are fun!
You'll have to post the finished stand. Right now it looks like a very pretty pepper mill.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Well, get out there and bring that crackhead leprechaun in! I bet you can sell him (even in pieces) and upgrade your gear beyond your wildest dreams!

Man was he pissed!
Nah. Guys like that are everywhere. More than half of the patients I work with everyday are clones of the same personality disorders and/or features.

MS-Pro, RS-1, SA5000, AD2000, K601?
The first time I heard the AD2000, I liked them, but wasn't overly impressed. I remember vaguely thinking they were a bit too airy. I also remember thinking they were seriously comfy. I'm pretty sure I was listening with Seebreeze's Opus 21 and my Extreme which I'd had only for a couple days. I heard them for the second time at Volton's most excellent MOA meet and was shocked at how good they were. Granted, Ironbut's R2R and a Zana Deux had much to do with that, but if I suddenly went insane and started buying more headphones, these would be on my short list and the most affordable and available on that list.

Who here owned (or still owns) parachute pants?
I really didn't need to have that picture in my head. Maybe he taped them up. We can only hope.
