  1. I bought the 2SK1529/2SJ200 from Audio Lab, because it's literally 2 suites over from a place I get parts for work. They also carry the 2SK1530/2SJ201, but I have no idea if that's a good price for them or not since I've never bought any.
  2. Yeah, no illness for me, but I've been buying a lot of parts lately... 2SK1529s, 2SJ200s, 0.1R resistors, speaker binding posts, RCA jacks, various power caps, 5v relays, 25k trimpots, LM317s, LM338s, toggle switches, 11DQ10s, a delrin knob (thanks Marc!), and a million other stupid little things I can't remember. I can sit on an order for days thinking about what other things I might need, but I won't remember them until the day after I actually place the order.
  3. Count me in as a non-attendee!
  4. -33dB for the two tone, also using bookshelf speakers.
  5. Did a quick run through the default music test with the bookshelf speakers on my desk at a moderate volume and got -30dB...
  6. I tried to google for another search engine, but it kept saying they all would harm my computer so I stayed away from them.
  7. Yeah, I can see how they would be a pain for anybody who obsesses over getting them in the best position possible. That's how I always was with speakers before, because it was always a compromise between different sonic factors no matter where I positioned them (there would always be at least one major weakness or flaw in the sound). Fortunately I'm more than overjoyed with how the Maggies sound currently, so I don't really have much concern over tweaking the placement anymore.
  8. That's a completely different situation though, by no means am I suggesting they're running at their full potential, but that's a separate issue from being difficult to position. "Difficult to position" tends to give the impression that they're not going to sound that great unless in the perfect spot and need to be in a very large room, something that kept me from even considering them at all in the past. I've had a hundred times more difficulty getting ordinary bookshelf and floorstanding speakers positioned well enough to sound decent, whereas the Maggies sound great in the majority of positions I've tried. The only time I felt unsatisfied with their sound was when I tried having them angled back slightly; as long as I have them completely vertical they sound amazing.
  9. I dunno... I have my MG 1.6s in an approximately 15x13 room and they were so much easier to get positioned right than any box speakers I've ever used. The imaging isn't as good as the nearfield setup I heard them in at first (although I don't really like feeling like I'm that close to the stage), but they sound absolutely wonderful in this room.

    Is that Steve's new ride?
  12. Verah nice, John.
  13. Now you know you've fucked up real bad when you even got the Head-Case crew saying positive things about Ray to avoid associating him with you.

    Wow that's still up?
  15. Scopes are fun.
  16. Are you serious? That's just... wow.
  17. That's how you solder them. The pins are hollow and the wire goes through from the other side.
  18. Yeah, in the typical cheap chinese tube sockets I've seen, it would be entirely possible to bottom out before the tube is flat against it if the pins are longer than normal.
  19. A friend of mine was making a small run of wood cups and such for Grados a few years ago, and was even courteous enough to contact Larry to let him know he was just doing a few and not trying to compete with him. Larry's response was something about how he had mouths to feed and my friend was stealing money from him by doing this, and proceeded to threaten to cause problems for him on HF if he continued to sell Grado mods.
  20. Yeah man, I felt like I was right there in the jungle, stuck because my time machine ran out of plutonium, and about to get disembowelled by a frickin' raptor.
  21. And sometimes they don't even get that circuit entirely right.
  22. Which can also ride bikes.
