The Headcase Stax thread
It seems like I'll be getting back into the Stax game money-hole sometimes this week. I'm about to buy a Lambda Pro + SRD-7 Pro combo, and I have a few questions for you Stax-heads. First, I have heard the Signature, SR-404 and SR-202, I was wondering what can I expect from the Pro compared to his brothers? Other than that, do you have a suggestion for an affordable speaker amp that will be used only to power the Stax setup? Thanks!

Omega 2 vs K1000 shootout
I've only heard the K1000 for a limited time at a meet so I can't really comment on it, but the O2 is definitely one of the very few cans I've heard (along with the Lambda series) that sound right with the whole "classical" genre, no matter if it's trios, chamber music, opera, symphonies or whatever. Being excellent headphones with all the other music styles I've tried is a nice bonus. Need to buy back a pair soon.

Just Bought Denon AH-D2000
I'd wait until you have spent some good time with the AH-D2000 before thinking about a recable. Usually, I'm pretty moderate in my opinions about headphones, but during the short time I spent with the D2000, I couldn't help thinking "this is not how my music is supposed to sound like" and I was wondering if my ears were screwed up because many people at the meet liked them and the Denon are very popular on head-fi. Considering your music tastes, your mileage might vary though, and I wish you'll like them more than me.

The Live Music Thread
While I was in Amsterdam two weeks ago, I grabbed a last-minute ticket at the Concertgebouw, which is recognised to be one of the world's finest concert halls in terms of acoustics. It was the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande with conducter Marek Jakowski and solist Arabella Steinbacher on the violin. First part of the concert was Mozart's 3rd violin concerto and second part was Bruckner's 5th symphony. It was seriously one the best aural experience I've ever had, truly spectacular sound. Compared the my usual concert hall (Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in Montreal), the notes had a longer decay and had more "air" to breathe, and everything was crystal clear, from the contrabasses to the piccolo. If you have the chance to go to Amsterdam, grab tickets at 10 euros 45 minutes before the show and for that price you even get free wine during the intermission!

Just Bought Denon AH-D2000
To be fair, I don't think Larry meant to put it the way I read it, it just rubs me in the wrong way when someone says something like "X can needs Y amount of burn-in" and then other people cite that as reference. Seems like it has become the norm on H-F. Agreed. I had the chance to hear the D2000, D5000 and modded D5000 at a meet and I found none of them were good reference cans, let alone worthy entry-level cans. The D2000 were not bad with rock and metal, but I didn't like how they handled more complex stuff like jazz and orchestral music. I thought the bass was overpowering and the midrange was pretty bland. Unless you absolutely need closed cans, I would consider other options in the same price range, such as Sennheiser HD600/650, Grado HF-1 and Stax SR-202.

Just Bought Denon AH-D2000
If you had said something like "to my ears, the amp took about a day to settle", while I would have been highly skeptical, I wouldn't have made the previous comment. The problem is that you proclaimed the 24-hours burn-in time as a fact, which could be misleading to a newbie and isn't of any real value to anyone.

Sorry in advance for not contributing to the thread, but do we really need that kind of BS here? It's one of the reasons why I don't read the other place anymore.

Starting up on acousic guitar - brand recommendations?
No problem with starting on electric, as long as you don't put tons of distortion to hide your mistakes and you don't post videos of yourself playing "Stairway to heaven" on YouTube. Learn your chords, learn the notes, learn finger positions and practice a lot. I'm a trumpet player, so I can't help you more than that.

Starting up on acousic guitar - brand recommendations?
Nice guitar, the wood looks beautiful! Kudos for starting on acoustic, I know so many people who started right away on electric guitars and played with a lot of distortion to hide their mistakes. If you ever decide to take the electric road, you'll certainly have a good base to start on. Also, I hope you're learning your chords and the notes on the guitar's neck, because learning guitar with tab sheets is the worst thing you could do.

The 320GB was quite cheap (80$CAD) compared to 130$ for the 500GB. I have an external hard drive anyway for storing my music, I just wanted something bigger so I can use a nice 100GB Windows 7 partition.

Need some suggestions...
From what I've read, most people think bagel pads only sound good on the GS1000, so it probably wouldn't be profitable for you to make them in leather. Personally, I want Grado pads that make them sound like Stax.

Good places to eat and drink in Europe?
I enjoyed a lot the part of my trip in Alsace. People there are very friendly, unlike Paris, and they just like talking about wine and food. We went in one winemaker's cave (Jean Rapp) and got to taste pretty much all of the alsacian grape varieties and I brought a Riesling back home. It was pretty hard cycling through the valleys with a one-speed bicycle, but it was totally worth it if only for the superb landscapes.
