  1. My mother wants to buy me a Cartier Santos, this coming weekend, apparently. She bought herself a medium (along with a Tank A), and wants a matching watch with me (which she already has, as we now both have and wear Rolex GMT Masters and Speedmasters, but whatever). I'm not going to complain. I dunno if I'll choose the medium or the small. I go to try them on tomorrow after work. I'll take my GMT and my Reverso, to help me decide. I feel like I'm right in between. The bold choice would be the medium.
  2. No, the chauffeur is a bunch of overworked and overstressed programmers.
  3. Nesbits. Just out of curiosity, how old is the watch now (or how long since last service) and how is it running? If this is for the Aqua Terra, you haven't had it that long, right?
  4. What do you need done? Yes, it’s a 42. This one is basically the same as my pre-moon. The new Rolex GMT, at 40, actually seems larger, due to the lugs and crown and crown guards. Omega hasn’t really changed the dimensions on the Professional, though the bracelet is much more substantial. Most of the other Speedies are larger. I’d love a FOiS. That is an awesome watch.
  5. It looks like every other Speedy, including my other one! Thanks though. I have it on the grey and black NATO, now. Wow the NATO strap is so much nicer on a 6.5 inch wrist than on an 8 inch wrist. It actually fits and adjusts correctly, on my wrist now, so it lays much flatter at the lugs.
  6. Oh, way thinner. It is about 6.5-6.75 (depending on temperature and activity level) these days. A "regular" strap is a little too long, now.
  7. The packaging for this Speedy is beyond absurd. I'll document it, if I get my table cleaned up some day soon. The screws on the bracelet are either over-torqued or had too much locktite applied. This is a brand new watch, and apparently this isn't uncommon. I'll take it to an AD, where I bet they just swap the bracelet. Otherwise, it wears pretty much just like the vintage one. A little shinier, a more curved crystal (I polished a ding out of mine), and I doubt any friends would notice that it's different.
  8. Absolutely on both regards! I do have some taste.
  9. If I'm going to have a modern GMT Master (and it has really grown on me over the course of the day), I figured I might as well have a modern Speedy. An unworn 311.30.42.30.01.005 (boy, that's easy to remember) arrives tomorrow. Quite a good price from DavidSW. I figured I'd get the newest, but I wanted the Hesalite crystal. It appears that this comes with two NATOs. If anybody wants an Omega NATO (assuming that both included straps are Omega), I'd be happy to sell one (or both) for a good price. I would wear this on my grey and black NATO.
  10. I use the red pads. I dunno the difference.
  11. They are wonderful, right? And pics please!
  12. It's growing on me (I've had it for almost exactly 3 hours, now). It's certainly a much dressier watch than the 1675, but also a little undercover. Though I suppose most people will think it's a Sub, even with the fourth hand and the 24 hour bezel. It's really neat how the ceramic bezel changes color with the light, though.
  13. I like the cyclops, always have.
  14. My mother wanted my dad's watch back ("back" being relative: she handed me my dad's watch about an hour after the event, when I made it to the hospital, before he had even been transferred to the ICU), and offered me a price that I was willing to take, knowing that I'll get the watch back, so I think I'm about to buy this:
  15. I think you'll really like it, but I bet you get a Speedy, down the road.
  16. I'm sorry, Ozgur. I had to fire somebody, today, but at least I looked happy doing it.
  17. My wife and I walked around a hippie college town here in Ohio, then we hiked (the planned activity) for five or so miles, then we rock climbed, hen we hiked back, and then we watched The Road, which Colie had never seen. A combination of losing lots of weight and working out with weights really surprised me when I nearly launched myself when I went over the lip of a boulder, today. I am now starting to believe that I’m not fat, I think. I’m not exactly thin, though, but it’s getting there.
  18. I'd definitely see if anybody near you has one (I don't know if they've actually hit retailers or not). I really love V=vintage Rolex, so it definitely does it for me. I take it that you haven't handled a recent one. Hell, my Big Block Chronograph from the early 90s was built every-bit as well as my late-90s Explorer II.
  19. Stretch is right on, of course. A new Speedmaster (get the one with the hesalite crystal) is also never a bad decision. They are 42mm, but wear like a 40 (they really do). Given that you like Seamasters, though, this seems like a no-brainer. Having said all of that, the Black Bay 58 is likely what I would get. It's a good size (a great size, really, and 12mm, which makes it versatile in an age where most Tudors are chunky), and I think it's just beautiful. The movement is excellent, as is the case finishing (Tudor cases are simpler than Rolex cases, but of a similar quality, which is to say about as good as it gets). I would buy it on the bracelet, but I would get the fabric strap with it (Tudor fabric straps are as good as Omega fabric straps). In my own watch world, which was newly added to in a less thoughtful way, I'm actually really liking the Oris. it's simple, in a highly mid-century modern way (the design really reminds me of something JLC would make), the dial is beautiful when the sun catches it, and at 11mm with well sloped lugs, it slips under a dress cuff with absolutely no problem. The stock strap is too long (not something I ever thought I'd say!), but it's not too too long, and it seems to be lined with some sort of synthetic suede, so hopefully I won't get a rash and need to get a custom strap made. The overall quality is quite good. It's an SW200-1 Sellita, which isn't an amazing movement, but it has been keeping wonderful time, just like the ETA 2824 it's based on can. The funny 11 indexes between 10-12 isn't noticeable, except when you do, and it's kinda fun.
  20. I'm unsure of why the Kay Outlet had the Oris Thelonious Monk LE on clearance, let alone why they have Oris watches when Kay proper doesn't, but I had a bunch of Kay certificates that were about to expire (all those Bulova limited editions bought from Kay for crazy low prices, if you remember), so on June 20th, that Oris Thelonious Monk LE will be mine. I've always really liked this watch, but never pulled the trigger. For $600, brand new? Yes please.
  21. The only way to better sexually harass people is with practice, I think.
  22. Oh, I guess I forgot to say: I'm now the Associate Director of Retail Operations and director of the Miami University campus stores. Technically I'm interim, but that is due to the way internal promotions work here, and shouldn't last more than a few months (at which point I'll actually get the pay level at which I'm working). Anyway, the latter title puts me in charge of the "bookstore," and its multiple satellites and external stores, which is a big thing in and of itself, and the former makes me operations director of all kinds of retail locations, including retail foods, many of which don't even exist yet, and which are going to be a real test. I've never supervised hundreds of people, including managers (I'm getting used to now being a "big boss," for large swathes of people). I think I'm doing an okay job. I'm extremely hands on by nature (though the antithesis of a micro-manager, as I trust people until they give me reason not to), and I'm having to get used to not necessarily touching the things I own. I trust my boss implicitly, and I'm being allowed to put together a sub-management team that I trust. Miami University is exhausting, by its very nature, and I work long hours, an hour away from where I live (that is changing come early August; it'll be 35 minutes away), but I really love it. So, any given day I'm doing all of that. I get to dress however I like, which is rather well. I got in 20,000 steps at work, today, in dress shoes. That's more than usual, but 15,000 steps at work is typical. It really works out well for me, in a lot of ways. Miami is getting the best of me. Every day, my energy and time go there. I'm afraid that my family is getting the worst, but I'm doing my best.
