Denon 3930CI on Audiogon
See, this is what pisses me off, along with a lot of other people here on Head-case. You haven't heard the damn thing and yet you stilll claim to know what it'll sound like. That's just bullshit, especially since this is a CD player where you don't even have the specs & schematics for either one of them to make an educated guess. Do you know what DAC chips they use? Filter algorithms? The analog output circuitry? If you answered "no" to any of the above, and you haven't even heard damn thing, you do not have a basis for making any judgements on its sound beyond "I don't know".

AKG K340 modding thread
I've done Larry's mods to my stock pair, in short, it tightens up the bass, takes away some of the fullness and trades it for more treble extension, detail, and soundstaging. In your case, I think that would be going in the wrong direction. I'm assuming you have a completely stock pair and nothing has been tampered with, you or jpack can correct me if I'm wrong. First step, open them up and pull out all the old cotton stuffing, it's probably all packed down and compacted, not the best thing to have. But don't throw it away yet. Then take a few balls of cotton and unroll them into strips, as shown in the picture below. Put a couple layers in each cup, put the headphone back together, and listen. Is it better or worse? As a general rule, more cotton, up to a point, will take the edge off the treble and add fullness to the bass, after that point it starts sucking the life out of the music without really doing much. Adjust the amount of cotton until you feel you have the best sound. That'll give you something to play with for a few days. You may find that the original cotton is best, which is why I said to save it, just in case. Unlikely, but possible. It may not be possible to get a balance that you're 100% happy with, that's fine, as there are other tools available for tweaking the sound.

I think the warmup time is actually the earpads warming up and remolding to your head and face.

So what's up with high-res?
The following is my totally uninformed opinion, and may not bear any resemblance to reality. CD is here to stay until they get yanked off the shelves and replaced wholesale with DVD-A or SACD. As long as there's a divided format, hi-res ain't going nowhere. I could still probably count the number of hi-res albums I'd want to buy on my hands, hell, I have an easier time finding the music I want on vinyl, vinyl for fuck's sake, and as long as this is true the only hi-res discs I'm buying are black and 12 inches in diameter. I suspect this is also true of quite a few other people. In conclusion, hi-res already exists, it's called "vinyl" or "records".

How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb?
Ok! Fine! I admit it, she was a hooker! Now I have to go cry in the corner. :'(

I like licking peanut butter off my GF's breasts. Go to Google and do a search for "Venus 2000".

Post the last thing you bought!
These are surprisingly good, especially when I add a few custom toppings & extra cheese before baking.

Avantgarde Duo 2.1, vinyl, good music
No audio forum is truly complete until it's been properly consecrated by a spirited digital vs. analog debate.

Avantgarde Duo 2.1, vinyl, good music
Yup, one the local libraries cleared out a bunch of their records last week for 25 cents a pop. Most of them were in rather sorry shape, but some of them were real gems that don't even have a single pop or click on them.

Dynamic range of vinyl is a lot better than you think...

whatever the fuck they're talking about...
Ladies and gentlemen of the supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider: (pulling down a diagram of Chewie) this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now, think about that. That does not make sense! Why would a Wookiee -- an eight foot tall Wookiee -- want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more importantly, you have to ask yourself: what does that have to do with this case? (calmly) Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me, I'm a lawyer defending a bunch of Nazi mods, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca. Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense. None of this makes sense. And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberating and conjugating the Emancipation Proclamation... does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense. If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.

Cheap Eastsound on HF
The Eastsound is so last year, it's all about the latest $100 modded Chinese DACs that absolutely kill Wadias and shit these days. Wait, I've just been informed I'm out of date already, it's all about the iMod and v-docks now.

Anybody using 1626/ vt-137's in their amps?
Nope, I use 1633's, the 25V version of the 6SN7. The only pentodes I have are 12 & 6W6's, they sound quite nice in triode mode, but I haven't fiddled with them in a while and the circuits are still in the proof of concept stage. Personally I don't worry much about the power of the tubes, as long as you keep the gain down you can run them wide open in Class A with no issues.

Apparently, the word filter is somewhat smart, since I can still talk about the Montrose music festival...

Moon Audio Luna
Nope. She doesn't have a turntable and she ain't got those speakers. Plus she hangs around on diyaudio, not head-fi, cause the latter rots your brain.

So now I have to type "tr0se" if I want to type out the name of Mr. donkey fucker.

Moon Audio Luna
My math could be wrong, but a gain of 15dB works out to a gain of 5.6 or so, so it's not all that high. I think could get away with using a stepper with only 24 steps, or if worse comes to worst you could swap in different transformers to drop the gain.
