The Return Of The Legend
I thought some of the old guys who made tubes back in the day said the new ones will not sound the same because some of the chemicals and production methods are not be allowed today. I have and will always avoid some amps that make use of specific tube types because the prices for "good" variations of the tubes are just too ridiculously high.

The Headcase Stax thread
Then they killed the thread on head-fi.. It was a DIY wood stat. If you're curious to see pics spritzer seemed familiar with it from the Russian forums. Maybe he could link.

Speaking of diy headphones-ish spritzer, you still recommending blutack for port mod?

Well they are wood and what looks like coat hanger so that will have the hipster crowed locked up. It also looks like he has a diy stats amp/stand made of wood.

A few great choices around now if the way schiit opts to do things doesn't fit you. I will do the analog upgrade eventually. I am glad they offer these upgrades; it is easier to do this than to try and sell my current dac to buy the newest dac.

So I guess this means that like their quest to better the T2, their development of a new flagship headphone has been a failure.

Can I get those in Tiger print? The ones shown are not quite my jam.

she is good to me though, always letting me play with both plugs.

Mr Speakers Electrostatic Ether E
Thanks, I had always assumed because of the look of it on the drivers.

Doesn't the SR-omega have a detachable cable? Did Stax ever comment on why the dropped this in their subsequent headphones.

Clearly there is not though marble in any KG amp. to justify the high prices. I think the bang for the buck lies unquestionably with the HE1

Mr Speakers Electrostatic Ether E
from Mr Speakers on Head-Fi :Regarding the question about the driver "stack," here's our configuration::1) outer metal grill:2) protective super-fine screen:3) outer metal stator:4) diaphragm:5) inner metal stator6) mylar shield with a protective super-fine screen (I guess this was what was meant by "impermeable", we use the mylar to mitigate humidity on the stator on the ear-side as the :metal will be colder than body temp and in humid environments this could cause condensation on the stator, which isn't a potential issue on the outside):7) Optional filters which can be used for tuning. The headphone will include two filters for three different tunings (they can be above or under the ear pad):8) Cloth dust screen integrated to the ear pad:We hadn't considered "sealing" the driver to be permanently dust free but this is physically simple to do. If there is no effect on the sonics we will add this.

Mr Speakers Electrostatic Ether E
I cant believe that he or anyone else with the intention of making an electrostatic headphone would not take the step of disassembling the driver from a pair of Stax to see what conclusions they have reached. I really do not understand the strategy of playing ignorant here, if he has other ideas on how to build electrostatic drivers just own it and state why. Unless these are going to end up as vaporware; we will see in the not to distant future if he has been successful in both SQ and reliability.

Fuck in snow
I can't remember the exact temp but I think at about -40f the moisture crystallizes out of the air. It's really neat, little sparkling things floating everywhere. Just don't have exposed skin.

Fuck in snow
Send some of it west to the Sierras! Five ski resorts within an hour of me and all are ice atm. No snow on the east side of the valley to speak of, was 60f yesterday on the east side and the dirt-biking was great until the sun got too low!

I had hoped that the rather rough machined look was for ease of prototyping, and that the production model would look closer to the ether headphones. Display box is useless to me, a travel case would be far better imo. While I can't vouch for the durability of their head band. I can say, to me, the ether style suspension bands are very comfortable. Luckily I have a locking China cabinet that modified nicely to hold my gear, and my girls and their colored pencils will be unable to probe these.

Also if it's anything like my mv you get the fun of Italian engineering. Random little things going wrong, then not being able to get parts. I rode without glass in my right mirror housing for 6 months because the damn company was bankrupt.. again. Then I couldnt just buy the plastic part with the glass on it and snap that back in the housing. I had to buy the whole damn mirror, housing and integrated turn signal. 360 dollars later. Oh and it's not like I did something to break the glass. I was on a smooth street when it just randomly fell out. Because, you know Italians. And I fucking married one tool so maybe I'm just a masochist. But I did love my brutale and my wife too I guess.

Chord Dave Any Good?
If you throw that dac together spritzer, keep the tube but remove it from the circuit. Just power it so it looks cool, say something about it helping with skin effect. Get a sand cast chassis and sell it for 90k. A quad of mesh pate 300b and you might get over 120 out of it.

I think it comes from 2 things. One being a fundamental misunderstanding of what tubes are and how they should be used. I blame this on a bunch of cheap tube amps designed to overtly emphasize negatives of tubes as positives. Then people assume this is what tubes should sound like. Add to that that many high-end amps have had tubes in the design, when this group of people go to upgrade they want to spend more money because you know that means better stuff? And we end up in this situation. These are the same people who when they listen to a good tube amp come away remarking that it sounds like solid state.. Argh
