  1. I am between books at the mo'. Feel free to make suggestions from the following: Robert Ludlum Tad Williams -- probably the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn cycle, as I already read the Otherland cycle and Tailchaser's Song something else
  2. Just use the "most recent posts" link at the bottom of the page instead. Unread posts never worked well for me.
  3. I have found repeatedly dropping it works pretty well. This works especially well if one performs the repeated dropping in immediately successive steps, such as dropping it down a stairway. What's the difference between a stairway and a stairwell, anyway?
  4. Sony on Porn
  5. Correction: Spybot Search & Destroy is the full name of the software that you want to download and install. You do not want to download a spybot, that would be deliberately sabotaging your own computer. Spybot bad, Spybot Search & Destroy, good. I usually recommend Ad-Aware at the same time. Since you run them manually, they're not mutually exclusive. There's a couple of freeware -- upgradeable to better Norton replacements. Avast is a good one. Need more details on the trojan in order to help you remove it. What I usually do is google on whatever is reported, and find some manual removal instructions and execute them. Don't blame Norton -- remember that virus fighting software will always be one step behind the people who write the viruses. Your best bet is to go Mac or Linux, although that just lowers your risk, does not eliminate it completely.
  6. I'd like to change my response to simply: "Yeezh."
  7. I call bullshit (on the doctor, not on the article). Chopping the penis off would be over-reacting. Cutting it up into tiny bits so that it couldn't be repaired -- that's malice.
  8. (sniff) That was beautiful, man. Pure poetry.
  9. 'found like poo'? I think you mean, 'found rike poo'.
  10. Fair enough. But you realize that association is in your head. The solution is to either listen lossless or at least rip at a higher rate (realizing you can't do that with tracks purchased from iTunes).
  11. grawk already made a decision, it's just a matter of how much company he's going to get.
  12. Not the ones I've heard.
  13. Friday's better than Saturday for me.
  14. Is it possible that by "in our area" he meant either (a) Conroe TX, or ( earth? Because just because it is on snopes doesn't mean it's a lie. It could have been photoshopped, but then again, it could be real, too. It says, "status: undetermined". Also, the Conroe TX could have been yet another inaccuracy, and it is in your neighborhood. I think you should find out from the pastor what family and go give them a visit and take some pictures if it's real.
  15. You believe anything he says?
  16. Have you heard the iPod? This statement makes me think you haven't heard it at its best. Are you just trying to perpetuate a myth that the iPod sounds bad, by repeating it as much as you can?
  17. I have IDE. And besides, wouldn't the bottleneck be the seeks? Drat.
  18. Do flash drives have a limit on the number of times they can be written to, or can they be written to indefinitely? I want to get an 8G USB flash drive and use it for swap (virtual memory)...I realize it's over the bus and USB, but it should still be faster than an internal hard drive, no? Seems like a good way to artificially boost my performance. Paying US$50-ish for 256Mb of internal PC133 SDRAM seems like a waste of money. I currently have a Sony Vaio PCV-RX550/PCV-7732 (depending on whether you believe the front or the back), which has 256M upgradeable to 512M. I think the real solution is to get a new computer, but I'm just wondering if the above trick is worth trying...and besides, I'll have an 8G flash drive out of the deal if it doesn't work.
  19. Quoted for emphasis.
  20. Although I disagree on principle -- quality sound can be had on portable audio -- I agree that most of those posts are full of shit. It takes a lot of thought and effort to put together a quality portable rig.
  21. I get "not found: hhfjava.hopto.org", and then a standard ISP type page.
  22. I'd be up for Wed, Fri, or Sat.

    Alessandro

I suspect a large part of the HPK's sound signature is due to the driver, and I suspect the Alessandro does not have quite the same driver, hence I am not sure it will sound like the HP1000. Yes, I know, that's an awful lot of conjecture but do you know what? I'm comfortable with that. Can't wait to hear for myself, though.
  24. Actually, try adding some html tags to resize it. I think 50% ought to do it.
