  1. I will check out Amarok. Not on my machine.
  2. So since there was no option to click, it wasn't installed. So I did a little googlin', and I found out how to do it from the live CD, and voila, I am now (e)speaking to you from my computer via linux. I'm a happy boy (happy boy!), I'm a happy boy (he's a happy boy), oh ain't it good when things are going you way, hey hey. Hubba hubba hubba hubba hubba.
  3. Ah, you're right, I did mix the two up. There was no option to click.
  4. Alright, I'm trying to install Linux (Ubuntu 6.06) on my admittedly ancient (by Borg standards) computer (Sony Vaio PCV-RX550/-7732). After the install (I let it wipe the disk [200G Seagate Barracuda]), Grub comes up and says "Error 18". So I think what's going on is that the Bios can't handle the large disk drive, but if I'm reading this page correctly, they want me to shrink my root partition down to 512M? That don't seem right -- the installer won't let me even shrink it down that small...
  5. Happy Birthday, man.
  6. Good enough, anyway. Thanks for saying something before I started complaining about the lack of black.
  7. Cables make about as much difference as subtle EQ. I pretty much agree with 909's response, except I think it's too safe, I'd go just a bit further -- the response applies to most cables, but if one were to compare, for example, the most extremely bright cables with the darkest, I think the differences would be audibly different. For example, my Pure Silver Sound Quartets are audibly superior in the upper frequency band to most every other interconnect I've tried...in my system. I need to track down a pair of balanced silver interconnects for cheap. It doesn't have the midrange to die for that my Cardas Neutral Refs do, but it's got more air and detail than anything else I have by far. Still my favourite response:
  8. I, too, know nothing on the subject -- but there are a couple of very knowledgeable guys on audiokarma.org -- post in the DIY section.
  9. It works better if you ground it, so you'll need to run a wire from whatever you tape up to the sole of your foot, and then keep your feet planted on the ground. Also, the tape would need to be continuously connected.
  10. You should shave your head and tape your skull -- protect your brain!
  11. Okay. If you believe that speakers can be good for one kind of music and not for another. Worth a shot. What I like about electrostatics is the lack of crossovers -- at least one fewer, in the case of the Martin Logans. Well, it can be done. But at that price, you should be able to get full-range speakers. I have a pair of Special 25's -- can't recommend them. They're power-hungry as all git, otherwise they have a major midrange suckout. A couple more: Reimer Tetons (mightl be impossible to audition, though); Soliloquy...?
  12. I'd try to hear something in Focal's 800 V series -- perhaps the 836. Unfortunately, the Diva (the cheapest full-range of the Utopia line) is out of your pricerange. Quad? ESL 989 appears to appear under US$5K... Martin Logan -- definitely check them out. Nearfield Acoustics Pipedream -- they've come down in price quite a bit. Some of the best speakers I've ever heard. Wilson Benesch...
  13. Huzzah -- I rejoice.

    Favicon?

This is an English speaking board -- translate please?
  15. $279 @ Abes of Maine, according to this post over on AK.org. Also, something about $125 HD580's on Amazon. I may have to pick up a pair.
  16. Hey, guess what I just got? Rega Apollo...sounds pretty nice straight out of the box...burn-in to follow... Oh, and: black.
  17. Huzzah -- thanks for posting that. Trent is my hero. How can you not love an attitude like that -- "I do what I want, I hope you like it, but will not pander..." That's exactly what being a musician is about. You do what you want (like we have a choice), and instead of trying to pander to a larger audience, you just try to find the people that will want to hear it instead. I've heard a lot of music with hip-hop influence (Kenna comes to mind), but that thing about layers and loops doesn't bode well...but I'm sure, coming from him, it will be fine. This will be his fastest record since With Teeth -- he's really on a roll.
  18. Third wire to a "proper" ground is the same thing as wiring it to the box if wiring it to the box connects (electrically) to the plumbing and the plumbing is connected (electrically) to a proper ground, I.E. the earth. That's why it's called "ground" and "earth", depending what country you're from. But you need to make sure that that is indeed the case -- don't assume. The long and short of it is, either way is okay, as long as you electrically connect that third prong to ground somehow. Do not just "float" it. Billy -- you're basically telling us that, as a licensed electrician, you've been shocked several times? That doesn't bode well for business, dude. I wouldn't advertise that...
  19. Pop tart?
  20. L, yeah, thanks!
  21. Actually, he does have feedback, it's just neutral. I have no idea whether or not you are being scammed. I wouldn't have bid on it in the first place, but I definitely would pass on the second chance offer.
  22. So I said, "fuck it", got a PNY GeForce 6200, and all is well with the world.
  23. He's a white lion. You know, like "baby, I'll still love you in the morning".
  24. That was funny. In 6th grade.
