  1. Had a couple of Two Brothers amber ales with dinner to start off this soccer weekend.
  2. The Scotch is in good form tonight! And now for something completely different, ... Coquetiez Du Lion Recipe by Goncalo de Sousa Monteiro 1 1/2 oz Lillet Blanc 1/2 oz Tanqueray Dry Gin (Blackwoods) 2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters (Bitter Truth Creole Bitters) Stir with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime twist. The house drink for Le Lion–Bar de Paris, in Hamburg. My first attempt was an inverted Vesper: four parts Lillet Blanc to one of dry gin. The old fashioned principle of mixing gin and fortified wine worked marvelously with a Lemon Twist. The next step to a worthy house cocktail would be the inclusion of bitters in the sense of the first definition of Cock-Tail. Peychaud’s Bitters were the choice for several reasons. For one, earlier experiments with Tanqueray, lime peel and Peychaud’s worked marvelously. Moreover, Peychaud’s comes from New Orleans—one of the cradles of the Cocktail—and the label of Peychaud’s features a gold medal in an 1869 exhibition at Altona, today part of Hamburg. For the name, the R in Coquetier (egg cup) was changed to Z to symbolize the hypothetical American misspelling “cocktail” and as a reminder of the Martinez, a predecessor to the Martini.
  3. I just purchased this one so I do not have it yet. I really like forgotten cocktails and for newer concoctions I am really liking Left Coast Libations. What I actually use a lot is the Drink-a-dex app on my iPad, but I am not sure it is even available anymore. Anyway, Al is the cocktail book meister.
  4. Not yet. We are staying in St. Charles this weekend for a soccer tournament so I am lobbying hard. I like the look of that drink Al. How is the North Shore aquavit? It is readily available around here. That stinger image is awesome Shelly, even if the actual drink is less so.
  5. Make that thrice nice!
  6. How Y'All doin' Hoboken Bitches! Sorry for my absence of late Al, been doing fieldwork during the day so this old man is very tired in the evenings. Getting back in the saddle with a CEO Cocktail 2 oz Brandy 1/2 oz Chambord or crème de cassis 1 oz Lillet Blanc 2 dashes orange bitters a lemon twist (apply as garnish before serving). Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  7. Al can hire Jeff to watch Colin.
  8. Damn that sounds cool. I wish I could take that course.
  9. That is great news Al, congratulations to your daughter. Is it a general program or discipline specific?
  10. I must be the outlier here. I initially liked it a lot but as it progresses I find myself becoming less interested in watching. None of the characters are particularly well developed and the story is not particularly engaging. I will finish out the season and hope for better. On Sundays I have been looking forward to watching The Killing a lot more.
  11. Happy Biscuit Day Brent. Hope you get a nice big steak for birthday dinner.
  12. Happy Birthday Jin!
  13. Happy Birthday Raffy.
  14. Have a Happy Birthday good sir.
  15. Was: Hacker-Pschorr Hefeweissen Now: Pre-rapture pair of Vespers
  16. I'm rooting for Tampa since we bought Peter a Bolts jersey when we were there for TamJam.
  17. Sounds heavenly.
  18. or both. I haven't really looked at any others in that size range. I went up to the A5's and never looked back. The real problem is that they don't sound better than really cheap WalMart speakers (HPA's comments not withstanding) and yet cost $200.
  19. Then you are wrong.
  20. Outstanding news Nate. Congratulations to you and the whole family. Hoping Andrew's breathing stabilizes soon.
  21. I wasn't surprised at all. He obviously thinks that a BS in EE makes him the fount of all audio knowledge. In his case BS is the appropriate initials for his degree but it is not short for Bachelor of Science.
