I initially was rather opposed to the idea of anuthing apple but I must say the iPhone is starting to grow on me. The interface mostly. Hardware wise I don't care for the phone one way or the other. But after playing around with a MacBook air and the iPad I am starting to like their products more. Am I going to give up my thinkpad for a Mac? No. The trade off between money spent on hardware and money spent on a spiffy interface is too high. Now if apple reduced prices or offered better hardware for the same price...

it is probably my brain trying to justify the cost of the tube but they sound nicer than the tung sol 5998 i have heard. no comment on the highs but mids and bass are moar, dare i say, liquidy. the tungsol sounds pale. -
Thanks for the heads up Nate. I tried canceling the order but I guess it is too late. I'm out for the case if anyone else wants to grab it.

for what its worth, i really like my s95. taking pictures of the pen i just received -
public. school is still in session so not trespassing. tree is in the middle of the quad. i was the one who called the cops because the campus ones were intent on taking my camera away. it backfired on me but that is a different story. dont have the financial means to pursue legal actions nor would i want to even if i did. it would be a giant waste of my time and would end up screwing things up for other students (no photography period etc). i just walked away laughing at how stupid people are. i am rather dense at times but i dont think i display the level of brain inactivity as these two gentlemen did. now the question is, do i go back for moar pictures of the big tree? heh.

so i was just walking around campus this morning (very nice day out) looking for things to take pictures of. found a big ass tree - trunk was like maybe 20 ft in diameter. its a very very old tree. 2 campus policemen came over and asked me what i was doing. i told them i got a new camera and was just playing around with it taking random pictures. then they asked me for my camera. looked around as if they knew what they were looking at and then claimed that they needed to confiscate it because i was doing potentially illegal things. i said i would just delete the pictures if it was that big of a deal but they said they needed to take the camera. threatened to call the real police and they said go ahead. real cops came and asked for my id. only had my office keys, phone and camera on me. guess they got suspicious (because i havent shaved in a few days) - thought i was taking pictures of shit to blow up. finally they agreed to call my advisor and let me go after deleting my pictures. yay for "freedom"

Very cool beefy. Wish I had skillz like that. I hear wimmin like men with skillz. Just an FYI though. Tube was actually a 421a. I tried playing around with a 5998 as well but it is a boring tube to take pictures of -

just ordered a gorillapod. it was cheap enough ($15 + free shipping with amazon prime) so not burning a big hole in my pocket. ugh...now i see how photography gets to be such an expensive hobby. it is fun however. in the past i only ever took seriously shitty pictures so when i randomly get lucky and get a decent one, it feels good. makes me want to practice and get better pictures. -

any suggestions for a cheapish tripod? i have really really really really shaky hands. even with the is i can sometimes fuck things up pretty bad. i saw some of those mini tripod that are like an inch big on amazon, any good? also the battery on the s95 runs out after about 300 clicks/10 hours. is that normal? -

high iso pictures were too bright. too low came out too dark. i kept messing around with 400, 500, and 640. the green light is actually from the router sitting right below the tube. i tried to kill every single light in the room but couldnt be bothered beyond just flipping the light switch for the over head lights heh. the slight blue (not purple, purple was the tube) tint was actually from my mouse which i had already covered with a sheet of paper. but i guess with an exposure that long, whatever little light is there gets sucked in? -

suggestions for improvement would be mighty nice having been playing around with the s95 for about an hour now. dont know what a lot of the things mean but i am getting the hang of what each thing does or how lowering one value fucks shit up. anyhow, heres the best i came up with in the last hour.
