is there an advantage to cloning the factory installed os vs a fresh install using the dvd?

do mbp/mba come with install cd's for os? could that be used or would one lose all the software that come preloaded. i dont know if macs come with all the bloatware that pc's come with.

changed the bugle boy to a mullard. changed channels but whiny noise remains even with the cables switched and unplugged. problem is either with power or within the amp itself. i dearly pray it isnt the 421a. all else is cheap and easily replaceable.

you dont NEED a docking station. the apple cinema display has those nifty connectors where you can just plug it into the macbook pro/air (no charger needed for mb. and viola! dual monitors. i dont know what would be needed for laptop + 2 monitors or if it could even be done. but given how flexible laptops are these days you can certainly get away without one. i only really feel the need for a big ass usb dongle. usually have 5-6 quad drive bays plugged in at any time, plus a usb mouse and the emotiva dac via usb. other than that, i dont really use any other ports. vga out to my 21" lcd. quite like the set up.

i agree with shelly here. i find desktops increasingly cumbersome in the days of docking stations and dual monitors. so much nicer to be able to just unplug and take your crap everywhere you go without having to worry about file sync issues. big piss off for me back when i had a desktop was doing something at home and then not having access to it at school etc.

for the past 2 days ive noticed this really high pitched whiny noise coming out of the right channel. audible without music. with music i just know its there because the music doesnt have any notes that high. if i unplug the headphones and plug them back in, it goes away for like a minute but then comes back again. using 421a and amperex 12au7 (bugle boy). any thoughts?

and new balance just went straight to the top of the customer service list for me. i thought i was ordering one pair of shoes but in fact placed the order for the wrong pair. entirely my mistake. got the box a few minutes ago and called them to find out if there was anything i could do. the guy said no restocking fee (i had merely opened the box), sent me a free ups shipping label for the return and gave me a 20% discount (already expired now) on the pair that i actually wanted and offered free shipping on the new pair. definitely will be going back to them in the future. have a 15% off coupon with free shipping in case anyone wants its - must buy 2 pairs of shoes though. 1226's are mighty comfortable.

i was referring to this. http://www.dvhardware.net/article40090.html read very fast. so might have misunderstood. however it does say 22 hours. dont know if that is with just a single battery or 2 of them.

kickass doc. did you get the newfangled 22 hour battery too? im curious if with actual use one can even squeeze out 12 hours of it. if so it would be perfect for me.

thanks guys. chris, were you an operations research guy or some sort of niche engineering major? i only ask because operations research is what i am planning on doing next and just found out that columbia has a "better" OR program than most other places barring cmu. as much as i would like to be back in cambridge, i am starting to realize that i have to grow up and assume my responsibilities as an adult fairly soon. as such, attending a school that offers better placement might be the smarter thing to do. then again i dont know anything about columbia. any insight would be much appreciated. depending on how the first year goes, i will either pick financial engineering or go towards modeling dynamical systems (i think this is what you do but i might be mistaken).

new caps are otw. just got the wood case back from the guy i had asked to glue it and give it a clear coat. looks rather nice without the packing tape i must say on a side note, past few weeks i had been listening to the jh16s exclusively. just went back to the 650 after 3 weeks. jh16s seem so closed by comparison perhaps its just the new toy syndrome all over again. resolution is far better on the jh16s but the feeling of music not playing inside my head is not present. me likey. me likey very much.
