  2. lol @ usb ports need to shaved every few days. that reminds me i have to hack off my beard as well one of these days. it has grown too wild.
  3. Saw it. Was very underwhelmed. Southland > new police stuff.
  4. happy birthday sir.
  5. i was referring to this. http://www.dvhardware.net/article40090.html read very fast. so might have misunderstood. however it does say 22 hours. dont know if that is with just a single battery or 2 of them.
  6. kickass doc. did you get the newfangled 22 hour battery too? im curious if with actual use one can even squeeze out 12 hours of it. if so it would be perfect for me.
  7. thanks guys. chris, were you an operations research guy or some sort of niche engineering major? i only ask because operations research is what i am planning on doing next and just found out that columbia has a "better" OR program than most other places barring cmu. as much as i would like to be back in cambridge, i am starting to realize that i have to grow up and assume my responsibilities as an adult fairly soon. as such, attending a school that offers better placement might be the smarter thing to do. then again i dont know anything about columbia. any insight would be much appreciated. depending on how the first year goes, i will either pick financial engineering or go towards modeling dynamical systems (i think this is what you do but i might be mistaken).
  8. dinny i hate you. i was JUST about to post THAT VERY LINE. :< ps. get out of my head plox. kthxbai.
  9. interesting tread. share some popcorn salty. stop hogging.
  10. just got the most tersely worded rejection email from cmu. shitty day just got worse and took a giant dump on me. was really hoping i would get in there =/
  11. new caps are otw. just got the wood case back from the guy i had asked to glue it and give it a clear coat. looks rather nice without the packing tape i must say on a side note, past few weeks i had been listening to the jh16s exclusively. just went back to the 650 after 3 weeks. jh16s seem so closed by comparison perhaps its just the new toy syndrome all over again. resolution is far better on the jh16s but the feeling of music not playing inside my head is not present. me likey. me likey very much.
  12. http://nexus404.com/Blog/2010/11/27/new-macbook-pro-coming-in-april-2011-with-macbook-air-features-new-rumors-say-next-gen-macbook-pro-to-sport-light-peak-support-ssd-no-dvd/
  13. what warranty do you mac folk have? apple care or go with the squaretrade?
  14. jacob, jim and gene say glossy. good enough for me. its 50 bucks cheaper too so yeah. one fellow grad students laptop just died so i might be selling my thinkpad to him if he cant find a good deal in the next week. if that happens, ill order the 15" mbp right away. if not, i just have to wait until the 7th to place the order. thank you gents. ps. i feel dirty doing this - first an iphone. then mba for mom (now sister's). then ipad for mom. then mbp for dad and now mbp for me.
  15. Tapatalk is doing exactly this for me. That or it doesn't show new threads for a week.

  17. Any way you could find out what processor it is in particular so I know to avoid it for certain? pretty please good sir
  18. Knuckles those were the two programs I read about. I figured I would go with a 15" Mbp. The resolution on the 13" makes me angry. It will weigh a bit more than my current thinkpad but not by much perhaps. the glossy screens seem to be reviewed very poorly in terms of usability so I guess I have to resort to paying for the premium anti glare option. If only amazon carried the confit I wanted with the anti glarescreens ordering from apple gives me a student discount which is then offset by the sales tax they charge. Also I miss free 2 day shipping from amazon. Going to call amazon tomorrow and see if they take special orders like these or maybe have a piece lying around doing nothing.
  19. just ran into that option salty. thanks however. there are a few options available on newegg. shall start reading reviews to see which mates/runs best with these creatures. this is most disheartening. the native resolution on a 13" mbp is worse than on a 13" mba >< what the hell...
  20. just found out that osx doesnt natively write to ntfs partitions. it is not possible for me to convert file systems to fat as about half my files are over 4gb. i did just find a few software fixes to get around the whole write issue. can anyone comment on the performance of these software fixes (write speeds with the fix vs write speeds on windows). are there any file systems that work for both operating systems? i am trying to make a final decision between a mba and mbp. just found out about parallels so wont really NEED a pc to run annoying math programs. vmware vs parallels? are there any nice (free, i still use dev c++) ide's for c++ for macs? i am assuming people do program on macs. edit: bloody fuck on a stick. 8gb ram for macs is some $400. i dont know how much of a memory hog osx is but will i run into any issues with osx and windows 7 running together with parallels or vmware? currently have 8gb in my thinkpad and nothing that i use software wise pages out.
  21. Any thoughts on the crack with the nicer caps? I'm about to put in another order for odds and ends for the dcpp. Wouldn't mind throwing in a pair of caps if the difference is noticeably between stock and upgraded caps.
  22. how the fuck is house the second most famous guy on tv...i mean really...that guy from ncis beat him out. wtf
  23. very postjackian dog. not sure what exactly that means but seems to fit. have fun!
  24. no clue how i missed those pictures mike. looks like a great time. all that time i spent in the north and never went skiing/snowboarding
  25. picked up the top plate from the dcpp. jackass charged me out the ass and screwed up the hole location for 6 holes. supposedly he had been running the machine shop for 40+ years...deeply regretting giving the guy the skirt for the crack now. on a nicer note, got accepted to phd programs at columbia and toronto. got nominated for graduate student of the year (for teaching) for the second year in a row. eating a slice of chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake now to celebrate.
