  1. Not a very strong start...
  2. FWIW they might be grid caps, I've never used them before.
  3. Stock photos don't count!
  4. As far I understand it those are the plate caps, and they're completely reusable.
  5. Heh, life is good since I've stopped taking on projects. Well, mostly stopped taking them on.
  6. So sad that I only own 650s then. Something tells me that a wenge pair w/ black grills would still look slick as hell even w/ the silver framed 650s. If you're looking for a beta tester I know one. And I think that it would look great even if you didn't turn the edge of the grill down but left a 1/4"-3/8" lip at the edge (just a bit smaller than what you have on that first pair, all the way around) where you could use the Grado hot glue trick to pin the grill down.
  7. Steve, Do you think that you could do them with a near full grill, Orpheus style? Cause that would be all sorts of hot.
  8. He said he needed a min of 6 gigs, I took that to mean that anything over that was workable.
  9. Not even close, but I do what I can.
  10. If you think Apple's hardware is bad I have no idea what you're looking for in a DAP.
  11. I wouldn't spend money on anything other than an Ipod touch these days. It's by far and away the best Ipod yet.
  12. Stephen, If they won't repair/replace them just let me know and I'll send down the SE310s, you can have 'em.
  13. Very nice Steve. If they were mine I'd have you use black mesh.
  14. So we should expect them when, the next 24 or 48hrs?
  15. Current draw really isn't an issue. Right now the input tube is drawing .6A of a possible 4A on that winding, but I know what you're saying. And it wouldn't quite be a single switch away as far as I can tell. The filaments are biased to B+ so I'm sure you could just simply switch in the 12.6V supply in place of the 6.3V without a pretty complicated switch. Granted, I haven't given it any thought so I could be over complicating the scenario but that's reason enough to pretty much stop thinking about it at this point. I want less building, more listening for a while.
  16. Any pictures or details of the adapters that you've built? I'm more than just a little curious since all I was planning to was a direct pin to pin wiring of the loctal socket to the octal base. And there won't be any 12.6V option, it is what it is at this point and it's not going to undergo any substantial changes in the foreseeable future.
  17. Fear not Steve, my dynamic rig isn't going anywhere.
  18. Happy Birthday!
  19. Nah, if that was going to happen I would have done it at CanJam so I didn't have to ship the thing home! But seriously, knowing what I have into it for parts and time I really couldn't charge enough since all I'd do is build another. Me too, I need to roll in a different input tube, the RCA that I had in there last night was kind of muffled and congested sounding. I greatly preferred the 5692 and the Sylvania 6SN7's that I've heard so far. And the parts for my 7N7 adapters should be arriving this week so I've got that to look forward to.
  20. I'll get right on that in all the spare time that I have coming up this summer... What is more likely is that there'd be a V2 of the power supply that used a different chassis since there's no earthly reason to use a 4" tall one like I did, I just had it laying around. But again, that's just not going to happen any time soon.
  21. Nice, looks like the loaner won't be required.
  22. Maybe Mike or jp#'s can chime in about the Omega Hemp series? I think they're pretty high efficiency and IIRC they both like the pairs that they had.
  23. Thanks for the kind words guys, it was very much a labor of love. The only bummer to come out of it is that my shelf space is simply not tall enough to allow me to put the wood accent pieces on that I originally wanted to. As it is there's only about 1/4" of clearance for the power supply (at the large choke) so I'm going to have to forgo that dream. I still might try to do something with the amp section since it isn't nearly as tall but right now I don't know how I feel about the two looking dissimilar.
  24. Finally had some time tonight to shoot a few updated pictures of the wiring and heat sink configuration. Pete is reviewing the final schematic along with the last few questions that I had. I've also managed to dial out the last bit of noise on the inputs. I've got a temporary fix in place and will be adding a permanent solution at some point that will involve a ground lift switch on the inputs. Bottom line, with it in place I'm more likely to hear the fridge running two rooms away through a closed door than I am to hear noise in the background of the amp. the amp guts (not too much changed from last time) amp top panel ps guts (again, not substantially different) ps top (just to complete the set) I expect to have the schematic in the next couple of days and I'll post it up as soon as I do. Listening again tonight, but with different tubes. 5U4GB's/RCA 6SN7/Cetron 5998s - sounds damn good to me.
