    Fluke 179?

    Good point!
  2. Mu-Metal, and associated EMI shielding stuff.

    Fluke 179?

I have done this, several times.
  4. If I find pro bias drivers for a reasonable price, sure. Dunno if I could bear to tear a good condition Gamma pro apart though.
  5. Just FYI, but I have the full service manual with everything for my '02 Mazda, and am pretty sure similar documents are available for most cars. Otherwise, most shops would be screwed. That dac did receive negatives here. Read the thread again.
  6. There are both USB and PCI converters which output bit perfect, and those which dont.
  7. But its got tubes 'n shit, it gotta be good!
  8. What is the difference?
  9. Just received a pair of SR-X mk3 I bought last week, and dang, they actually sound quite decent, even with the bare cloth pads (vinyl all flaked). Decent bass even, and they are in surprisingly good shape, especially the cable. Came with an SRD6, but I am using my SRM1/mk2 instead. Good stuff.
  10. Interesting. I havnt heard the A900Ti, but I like them way better than the HD650 or any A-T I have heard. I do find the HD650 more comfortable though, and ironically dont find the HE-5 cable microphonic at all really, even though I do rather despise it.
  11. I believe the musiland usb-spdif can do 24/192, and do it async at that.
  12. Hmm, interesting, kinda like the thing with contact lenses. Probably with less perceptible benefit though.

And the lemon after the milk. Actually did that once, as the tea came with both.
  14. Brent has been practically proselytizing us with said information in the chat for the past few months.

The elderly one doth speaketh wisely.
  16. I owned HD580 for years, was happy with them for years, and sold an HD650 (with and without closed headphile deep woodies) in favor of HD580. Really cant see buying another one though.
  17. No, need orthos.
  18. The Adcom you heard sunday had no NFB in the analog stage. Or possibly rejects, parts which work, but didnt meet spec. Almost certain the PMD100 is an ASIC.
  19. Cool. I had to run 1.5 miles for the MSP yesterday, though they messed up and gave me an extra lap to run. Of course, after all was said and done, they told us that the governor had reallocated the funds which were to be used for the December academy, and that it doesnt look promising that they will have one at all this fiscal year. Basement isnt really able to be used like that without cutting up drywall. I could probably get it to my room through drop ceilings and following pipes and stuff, but I am in the basement right next to the room the modem is in. Just havnt cared quite enough to do it yet. Its plenty fast, especially coming from a 512/128k satellite.
  20. Nice! Verizon didnt run any cat5 here, just fiber to the box on the outside of the house, then comes in on a coax cable about 6' long to the modem. Modem has built in 802.11g though, which is nice.
  21. You know you cant turn stuff up on the foobar eq, but rather move the rest of the spectrum below zero? I didnt detect any treble peaks, and these usually bother me. Of course, very different rigs, and different music and listening tastes/habits.
  22. This. Yup, the HE-5 was sweet, and the LCD1 good enough that I am really dying to hear the LCD2. You got it, the SR-X mk3 was the little 30 year old supraaural stat.
  23. I will take any lambda frame you got over any grado (though more on a basis of sound than durability). The frames might seem flimsy, but tell that to my 30 year old SR-Lambda, which is still marching on.
  24. Just wondering, what are you actually doing with the tube? I presume (and please, correct me if I am wrong), that you are taking the differential outputs of the ES9018 and converting to voltage with a pair of standard opamp transimpedance amplifiers, followed by a differentially connected opamp with sallen-key LPF, and then an optional tube emitter-follower buffer on the output or a 3rd opamp buffer stage, each of which with maybe one more filter pole? I dunno, unless it is something extremely different than this, it would be much cheaper (and more interesting to most here I suspect) to just have a balanced LPF/buffer stage, and lose the tube and associated power supply completely. Heck, a DIO opamp LPF/buffer stage would be pretty cool, and give you the SE and differential outputs with no real addition in parts count. Meh, whatever, its your dac, you are free to do with it as you please.
