RS-1....650....that's a dual personality....
-
Come to think of it...several manufactures stretch their product line and maintain a dual purpose component by taking the statement headphone amp combining with preamp features. But the magic and convenience, for me, blurs the line. Headphone amps are next to my favorite chair and pre-amps are on the other side of the room snuggled in a rack being the heart of a two channel speaker rig.

How True....and after a couple more alcoholic concoctions the sound sig will alter yet again. I don't think I ever have to search the upgrade path from here forward.....all I need is a better grade of booze!

If you have several headphones at your disposal..and one or more has set idle for several months, you plug in and something is amiss. The phone in question has played for several hundred hours previously and is well broken in...but the Bass is threadbare and a bit lumpy..the treble is closed and has a nasal stridency, while the midrange is recessed and hollow sounding. Then after 2 to 6 hrs. of healthy playback things flesh out and the balance and tonalities also timbers are as you remember. Has the driver surround stiffened? Has the diaphragm itself loosened and lost the piston properties? Has the hole flow alignment that permitted electron flow closed, then has to realign? Is it all of the above? None of the above? Now some of it might be that a different phone has different acoustical properties than the phone that it is replacing...granted. But after noticing that pinched unfocused quality after two minutes....then you hang them up to play sit and spin with healthy playback levels. Then return after a couple of hours to notice that things indeed have settled down? Has anyone ever noticed or wondered?

fatigue from Beyer DT990s - do I need a new amp or different cans?
aRc replied to acidbasement's topic in Headphones
I have the 990's in 600 ohm and they are great with the Beta or Phonitor. Did you mention the loudness level of your playback? -
Mark is the middleman..he doesn't strand or attach the wire and doesn't produce the wooded cups. I believe he attach's the finished cup for final assembly. That makes for an expensive business venture and why his prices are up there a bit. I'm not making excuses for him...simply an observation.

After a re-cable and a little damping it's not that terrible. Well balanced and clear at low levels I found.

Dig their colors:asshat:

Looks more like "Turkey Jerky" to me!

They don't..won't and couldn't...no changes mentioned to driver or housing.

Whats really sad is the links on the bottom. I wouldn't want Consumer Reports offering Headphone rankings to anyone.

Has anyone heard it yet?

The properties of amplification are well documented and haven't changed in 70 years with the beginning of Ultra-Linear. We haven't had a technocracy breakthrough in 50 years since the transistor and the advent of lightweight technology . It has been a refinement of existing technology all these many long years and to what service? Phonophiles know the point of contact is the important interchange. And is most susceptible to corruption. The table works in concert. speed variations, damping and warble have to be synchronous to allow the styli max performance. Simplified I know but though the hard/software has changed but the importance hasn't. The corruption occurs in a pico environment with digital. Most all factory gear has problems that can be lessened. They all build to price points and scrimp on the internals to varying degrees. But you overlook that with a 10K lighter wallet.

I apologize! You have a modded source Mr Dusty? Was it purchased already with the mods in place. Did you purchase it new, and after a time decided to upgrade? Was it purchased at the behest of mod maker for it's upscale potential? Bit storage, in whatever medium you choose is not the problem. Retrieving those bit in some order of semblance is the failing point. If the op is hanging up his headphones in two months time, to move on to bigger and better things, then all the afore mentioned replies have validity. The first reply; through money at it, 2K to where.....? You mention nothing better at it's price point. The OP chimes in he is less than satisfied with the sound proprieties. You chime back with a good luck. Then the famous side step with the DA10. We all know in TWO months his doubts and pangs will resurface. Can't wonderful deals be had on used gear? You enjoy the gear for a time and later discuss the upgrade options. Can't a modder, in layers to match your budget, forge a piece of gear into something that will remain valid TWO years down the road. I think of the long term! It wasn't always that way and many side steps later (and many, many more dollars later) frustration takes root, and can't be moved with dynamite. Maybe I'm wrong and the formative education should be left to the "other" site. If all belief is Religion, then I'm guilty as charged. I was simply relaying a possibility that maybe he hadn't considered. And was sharing some of my experiences through the post. And I don't post often and that will be a relief to you I'm certain!!

Fanaticism is why were here..... ain't it?

The Source is to oft overlooked and the most important part of the chain. Further down the chain you could find a good amp/phone combo and never know it because your source is wanting. It's the Alpha/Omega!! Scour the used market, or find a descent modder for the used gear you have or will acquire and spend the extra. Your ears will be appreciative of the effort!

I think it's sensible these "Ladies" maintain a short a skirt as possible. Heaven forbid their "Possibles" are dampened by the rain and mildew.

I had an instant aversion to the D5000. A bottom with loose bowels syndrome. I was a dissatisfied owner for about twenty minutes and they were boxed and on the route back to Amazon in the Morning. The phone physically felt flimsy in the hand and were not well put together.
