  1. First of all, you are insane to let Stevieo drive you anywhere, even to the corner. Second of all...good one. You had me going. I had visions of you guys driving up Interstate 95 with Mikhail holding a 35 lb unit in his lap, soldering tube sockets between each bump. with solder smoke streaming from the car like a Cheech and Chong movie. It ended up that the amp that Mikhail had for Tom (after a double digit month wait) was really Hirsch's that Mikhaik took by mistake from the DC and Tom (after he and I had Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, after maunaully removing 36 3" wood screws from the crate) realized it wasn't his. Luckily, Tom has the patience of Job, and other equipment to listen to.
  2. Sorry, you did tell me that the next time we spoke. I felt so bad for you, after seeing you assemble an entire Salamander (or the like) 5 shelf home entertainment center, and then not being able to use your beautiful system. But...wasn't eveything else powered up that was plugged into the P500?
  3. Ken, perhaps this due to the fact that a good amount of ES-1's that have been brought to customers, after unbearable amounts of waiting times have not worked. I understand that you are talking about mob-mentality, but with a history of poor performing machines, it doesn't sit well when another one doesn't work. How many Zana's or WA5's or B-52's have we heard about this common occurence In Chicago, Morphsci's didn't work upon "power-on". In San Francisco, Neil could not use his upon power-on, after an hour long setup and a lot of frustration. Tom's didn't work last year or the year before (bad buzzing) at the November meet and there are other instances, and they were all blamed on "bad tubes". Is there another manufacturer large or small that has had the same track record. I remember a funny NYC meet on-the-fly post where (I believe it was Juan CD44hi) was posting from the car while driving from a Hirsch's DC meet to a NYC meet, posting about a Radio Shack pit stop and 40 minutes of gas powered emergency soldering in the car on the way to the meet. Staying focused on the facts, a bunch of people were at a meet, and another ES-1 didn't work, whatever the reason might be.
  4. Make that 6 that are having trouble. I was at Bozebutton's house yesterday for a mini-meet and within one hour of use, his left channel was fading. Tom checked the bias and it appears that it walked on it's on. After doing another adjustment, the channel faded in lost electron land and it is now in need of repair. Unusable.
  5. Nothing written in stone, Nate. Just telephone complaints and details that were asked to be kept out of print. I'm sure that Kevin heard similar circumstances in his late night phone calls from frustrated people who just need an ear or shoulder to lean on while waiting on their extra long journey through the unknown. If the dark line is going to be painted, it is going to have to be from a person willing to openly post their experience. I don't think that anyone wants to single-handedly be responsible for the downfall of someone's mortgage payment or child's college fund, unless that person truly thinks there is no chance of ever getting their money back that equates to a sizeable amount. One member is currently involved with a lawyer who advised them not to say anything publically that might hurt their case. Afterwards, I'm sure that s/he would be very free to share with us.
  6. So many people are so fearful of retaliation, that they are afraid to post their situation with Mikhail. I can see their point and understand the concern of never seeing their $13,000 again. First and foremost, I believe that Mikhail needs to respond in one of these threads and explain what's going on. No bullshit (there's been plenty of that), just straight forward answers to what's going on. If he's in trouble, he's in trouble and he and the customers he owes money to, can take baby steps towards remedying this "sinking ship" situation. In this case, silence, is not golden. Mikhail needs to give a realistic, truthful assessment on his curent situation, and create a do-able gameplan towards getting his head back above the water line. He's lost in a world of muck and mire and he is perpetuating the situation and making it worse by swapping other people's amps that have been recently sent in, to long time waiting customers who are starting to have squeaky wheels. He is promising free upgrades to quiet the restless, and those who have received their upgraded amps, with a different serial number than the original sent in, who know the difference between silver and gold, are reporting that the upgrades are simply not in the amp. This asks the question, "are people paying for upgrades that aren't in the "black box"? This situation is going to change the face of our audio forums as we know and love them, two-fold. I assume that not too many people will send a check for umpteen dollars to most component builders in anticipation of their amp, unless the amp builder has an impeccable, untarnished record (Justin, Ray, Jan, etc.) Also, I don't see anyway that Mikhail will ever recover from this because too much money is outstanding and unless there are philantropic angels who believe there is good in all people, including habitual sinners, are willing to front Mikhail money for future projects, even if he "sells the farm", only a winning Mega-millions lottery ticket will be able to bail him out of this one. Mikhail has been very abusive of Head-Fi, in my opinion. He goes to a lot of local meets, taking up multiple tables, constantly using these meets as a springboard to move his product, but has given very little back to the community. Tiny contributions to pay for the rooms (of the 5 meets that I have hosted, anyway) while the other manufacturers and distributors have been overly generous. Even with all of this, he needs to step up to the plate and, along with Xin (albeit a lot less money involved), state what his situation is, and propose a plan to start to head in the right direction. Otherwise he will be forced to close shop, leaving all of his financiers holding the bag without any FDIC insurance coverage. This also includes piggy-back wiring R-10 upgrades for large sums of money. Makes me wonder about the whole Jena Labs crisis. Mikhail was in the middle of the debacle too, no? But we all trusted that Mikhail really received the headphones the way he claimed and now we have to question every instance where we gave him the benefit of the doubt.
  7. Nice pics Dreamer de Iron. ...and a good time was had by all (even the nice policeman that stopped by to say hi to the young Klipsch posse). It is Jewish tradition to stomp on a glass at the end of a wedding ceremony, but from the 5th floor?...now that's, a different religion.
  8. I too, had an amazing ass back in the day, and I was more the hip hugger bell bottom jeans sort of guy. Of course at that time, I had a 30" waist. And I'm not talking about just bell bottoms...I mean "elephant bell bottoms". That's true Bell Bottom Blues. I was, and still am, totally against type of baggie pants and personally hold the GAP and OLD NAVY (which is now going out of business) responsible. I am against any oversize clothes that don't allow me to know a women's true figure, good or bad. I e-mailed Tyra and asked to please bring back Hot Pants and Mini Skirts for those women whose figure they'd compliment. And enough with the shirts with sleeves to long for short sleeve, but too short for long sleeved. The same goes for shorts. I'm not looking for Starsky and Hutch crotch huggers, but it's time to bring back something above the knee. 30 years has passed, has it not?
  9. There ya go.
  10. I kept waiting for the punchline.
  11. I thought that you can disable the "digital" output volume on the SB3 when I had it, but not the analog.
  12. I knew that. I meant Charlie Daniels. Wait, what were we talking about again? I need a Cosmo with an umbrella in it.
  13. Hyperbole's cool, just as long as it's not subtle at the same time. BTW- I can safely and unequivocally say that no man has ever been down my throat!
  14. To contain his AKG branded Johnson?
  15. I don't understand. Maxed out volume on the Slimserver interface is 11, and 100 on the TP. Whaddya mean "it goes to 0"?
  16. That's how they always drink it on TV when they are trying to drown in their sorrows. Jim Beam and Jack Daniels are distinctive TV "get drunk and do something stupid" liquors (technically bourbons). Rarely do you see a drunk guy with a suit and loosened tie, stumbling down the street with a bottle of Macallans 15 year or Highland Park 1985.
  17. 2nd times a charm. I'm still really diggin' the Chinese stat. This one's going to be a keeper.
  18. Push it in and use a napkin or cheesecloth to filter the cork remnants. I was bartending a mafioso wine merchants party and he had a $5000 quadruple magnum bottle of wine which he had laying on the side in his wine seller and the cork rotted (1994). He took a pitcher and a Dixie napkin and filtered the whole bottle. I was astonished!
  19. What's "liqour"? Is this the new version of crack?
  20. That's if the headphone jack ever becomes active.
  21. Come on now, give yourself more credit. You were able to take apart my 3G Ipod, break it, and then fix it again. It doesn't work now, but you gave it a pretty good shot and I asked for no guarantees. That's a big step above saying you don't know about electronics. Soldering something as small as a pubic hair takes skill and courage. Don't be shy now.
  22. Plenty of people. The problem comparing me to Wayne is that, Wayne buys stuff with cold hard cash. I, on the other hand have sold my soul to the devil whose name also goes under the name of Master Card, Visa and Sir Charge. ...and John, pawn shop is such a Bohemian term. I'd rather think of it as a lifelong payment plan. Then there's Bozebuttons...
  23. I'm with Hirsh on this one. The behaviour of a dielectric is determined by its dielectric constant value. As the constant value changes over time, so will the output which in this case, is sound.
  24. So, I can use this in my bedroom instead of buying a second unit, but if it's just the remote, where would there be outputs to hook it up to a headphone amp? Are you sure the remote has a Wolfson DAC in it, because with WiFi in the remote then you wouldn't need the receiver at all. It doesn't say in the specs on the SD site that it contains a DAC or outputs other than an unusable headphone jack.
  25. No, not that. Then we would would never be able to have heated debates on the subject again.
