I'm sure the beta could be reconfigured to use both remote volume and source control. That'd be the route I'd go before adding another preamp to the chain.

I'd definitely like to see how the beta is as a preamp. From what I've read an active preamp will work best with the SET power amps.

You know, I really don't see the curse part here. We may have saved you hundreds if not thousands. The beta should prove to be a GREAT pre, and to add a couple hundred to the final cost will make for a kick ass addition to your speaker setup. You should be thanking us by giving us money and beer.

They have their limitations, but you'll have your super 300B a lot quicker.

A couple of years back I mucked around with better caps, alps pot, decent case and connectors and a 12v lead sealed battery.

The results were quite astounding for the $$$.

Or the Tubelab Simple SE (ie. not DHT). Also not sure the Tubelab SE board is available which would mean PTP.

Unfortunately he says that the power supply still might not be good enough; I believe he has already made several revisions on it.

Just a small update I will be using the Beta22 as an integrated amp (temporarily). But per Kevin Gilmore's advice, amps like the Beta22, Dynahi etc will make very poor preamps. Too much voltage swing and high noise floor.

Kevin has given me some excellent suggestions for preamp ideas, but I'm still open to more ideas. I might just create a separate thread.
