November 20, 200718 yr Author I'm sure the beta could be reconfigured to use both remote volume and source control. That'd be the route I'd go before adding another preamp to the chain. I'd definitely like to see how the beta is as a preamp. From what I've read an active preamp will work best with the SET power amps.

November 22, 200718 yr I'm going right off on a tangent, but have you considered modding a sonic impact? They have their limitations, but you'll have your super 300B a lot quicker. A couple of years back I mucked around with better caps, alps pot, decent case and connectors and a 12v lead sealed battery. The results were quite astounding for the $$$.

November 25, 200718 yr Author Just a small update I will be using the Beta22 as an integrated amp (temporarily). But per Kevin Gilmore's advice, amps like the Beta22, Dynahi etc will make very poor preamps. Too much voltage swing and high noise floor. Kevin has given me some excellent suggestions for preamp ideas, but I'm still open to more ideas. I might just create a separate thread.
