I'm sure the beta could be reconfigured to use both remote volume and source control. That'd be the route I'd go before adding another preamp to the chain.

I'd definitely like to see how the beta is as a preamp. From what I've read an active preamp will work best with the SET power amps.

From what I can read, It will use your RK27 as the volume control.

jb-sauce-mad-scientist after a long day of pondering I think I might go with the 100 stepper, just need to do more research. Because that's how I roll.

Curse you RK27 POT.

And thus the story of how a simple headphone amp becomes an integrated amp followed by its preamp transformation.

I'll throw some Blackgates in this bitch if it becomes my permanent pre.

You know, I really don't see the curse part here. We may have saved you hundreds if not thousands. The beta should prove to be a GREAT pre, and to add a couple hundred to the final cost will make for a kick ass addition to your speaker setup. You should be thanking us by giving us money and beer. ;)

Why? I hope you didn't pay more than $15 for it? Unless it's the 4-channel version...

You can't fight evolution. :kitty:

I think it was $17.

30 rack of PBR en route to you ;)

I will have to pretty up the front panel if it's going to sit in the big boys rack. Good thing I got the ARC imitation case I really like :P

I'm going right off on a tangent, but have you considered modding a sonic impact?

They have their limitations, but you'll have your super 300B a lot quicker.

A couple of years back I mucked around with better caps, alps pot, decent case and connectors and a 12v lead sealed battery.

The results were quite astounding for the $$$.

Funny how his new name shortens to "DP", which in the porno world stands for "double penetration".

One has to wonder if there's a hidden meaning behind the name change... :P

Well, it is his real name. :P

Staying on topic, another possibility which I just remembered

I talked to George a few months ago about his amp. Practical stuff. :)

I saw down the bottom of that page they say they used it with some 45s as a driver stage for some 845s or 211s. Sounds like a nice idea.

Unfortunately he says that the power supply still might not be good enough; I believe he has already made several revisions on it.

Just a small update I will be using the Beta22 as an integrated amp (temporarily). But per Kevin Gilmore's advice, amps like the Beta22, Dynahi etc will make very poor preamps. Too much voltage swing and high noise floor.

Kevin has given me some excellent suggestions for preamp ideas, but I'm still open to more ideas. I might just create a separate thread.
