Balanced would be neat.

It's going to be called the P-1 mkII. I've been told that it will lose the balance control on the front and that it will be colored silver. It's currently slated for a debut in September but there should be more documentation in the next two months.

Assuming that the P-1 mkii is an improvement over the P-1, I guess with the differential in price there should still be a market for the my P-1 once the mkii is released, without taking too big of a hit. This assumes that I would pay extra for the mkii.

I find this whole scenario a little strange. I recall reading the reputed reason for stopping P1 production had to do with a lack of parts availability (never specified which parts). No doubt a marketing prelude to the introduction of the P1 mkII.

The P1 was not a limited production run ... the US version was limited to 10 units.

Sure, that's possible. No doubt there are other plausible explanations.

On the other hand Luxman was willing to provide more US specific P1s, but needed a guarantee for 50 units. That didn't materialize and then coincidently some parts became unobtanium. Perhaps it is a coincidence. Perhaps not. Either way I find it an odd situation.

They did sound jolly nice, though.

The P1 seemed to be fantastic on many cans: GS1000, R1, HD-600, HF2, PS1000 during CanJam. However, I wasn't too pleased with it with the HD800. Anyhow, thats just my personal opinion

Agreed, but you gotta recognize that shaizada's ears have been carpet-bombed by the B-52 for some time now.

Not that my opinion matters much as I'm still a noob to all things audio, but I was surprised to hear people dislike the GS1000 so much. Then again, all my listening with them has been out of the P1, and shaizada's comments made me feel a bit more sure of my ears.

Subtle differences for the next model won't be enough to get me to switch over. I'll need more than that.

The P-1 and the HD800 sounds about as good as I've heard the HD800, in addition to the WA5, BUDA and Nugget B22.

It's almost certainly going to be a subtle change. Phil O'Hanlon, the distributor for Luxman in America, said that the P-200 will probably achieve 80-85 percent of the performance of the P-1 mkII for 50 percent of the cost which is the exact same statement given about the P-1.

If that is true, sounds like the subtle change is just the color then...

When I bought my P-1 I was wondering whether I should save the extra money and wait for the P-200. Having heard it, I'm glad I went with the P-1. That's not to say the P-200 isn't good and for those whom the P-1 is out of reach, it's a nice amp. I just prefer the P-1 in terms of sq and in terms of the overall look. I should qualify this by saying I heard the P-200 at CJ for a brief time without a P-1 to compare it to.

Fixed it.

The HD800 seem to benefit from a balanced P1 connection. This might just be new HD800 love though, so I will have to do some more tests. I will be lending my balanced cables to Mike with the Aero DAC, but have already placed an order for another set which I should get soon (I need another set anyway).
