I prefer a balanced connection with the P1 as well and I don't have the HD800.

The HD800 seem to benefit from a balanced P1 connection. This might just be new HD800 love though, so I will have to do some more tests. I will be lending my balanced cables to Mike with the Aero DAC, but have already placed an order for another set which I should get soon (I need another set anyway).

:doghuh: I thought the P1 was SE?

The P1 is SE only. The RCA inputs go directly to the volume control but the XLR's are fed through some active circuitry. Take a look at the block diaphragm in the manual.

That one looks like Antonio's unit but I don't think we ever confirmed what the 3 primary wires are. They could be a 0-100-117V taps or one of them could be the ground wire for an internal shield. Only a look under the small PCB and a DCR test of the primaries will tell us what's what...

Yep, that one looks like mine. Still using the 230-100V step down with it. Once I looked inside and we determined it couldn't be converted for 230V operation, I placed it in the rack and forgot about measuring those primaries. I agree with Birgir, my guess is they are for 100/117 V operation.

Break out that DMM and measure the primary.... ;D

:kitty::rofl: No way! Some day I'll be selling it along the rest of the dynamic shit and I want it to be immaculate :P

The Stax mafia approves of this message... :)

Still it would be far easier to sell at 117V... ;D
