Ice storms are the reason I have a generator and transfer switch. The setup is sufficient to provide heat/hotwater, power to about half the house (most importantly the fridge/freezer) and cook in the microwave. I've only had to use it once in the last three years but it was nearly worth it from that instance alone and the peace of mind is hard to put a value on with two little kids.

For a reasonably-priced peated malt from outside Islay, I enjoyed the BenRiach Curiositas, from Speyside. It's not outrageously take-my-pants-off good, but it's far better than it ought to be given its price.

We got 1/2" of ice. I can't get out of my driveway, we're losing tree branches pretty regularly, and we don't have power. I tried salting my driveway and slid half way down it. It's a lovely day.
  4. I would buy for that price just for the blackness. "It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black."
  5. That seems to be the current going price for the mk1s, I wish the $ differential between 007 and 009 would decrease a bit so I could try the latter.
