  1. It was known that firebreaks work since 1666 during the Great Fire of London. " [Samuel] Pepys spoke to the Admiral of the Navy and agreed they should blow up houses in the path of the fire. The hope was that by doing this they would create a space to stop the fire spreading from house to house. The Navy – which had been using gunpowder at the time – carried out the request and the fire was mostly under control by Wednesday, 5 September 1666"

  3. Jose, terrible news for you and all the folks effected by the fires! I know I'm late to reading about this but even when the immediate danger is passed, there is always a lot of recovery to deal with. Keep your spirits up!

  8. This was very, very cool. You are an astronaut exploring a solar system and trying to figure out the mysteries of a an extinct civilization that came before, only there is a twist to it. After 22 minutes from when you start playing the sun goes supernova and kills everything, resetting the game. After each reset of the time loop you remember what you did, but you have to start back at the starting world. You use what you've learned after each loop to dig deeper and solve the mysteries of each planet and the solar system at large. Basically a game version of Groundhog Day or Edge of Tomorrow. Just a fascinating premise that the developers deliver on.

  9. I had a whole bunch of stuff at Reynold's Tavern in Annapolis: bacon mac & cheese, Roasted Red Pepper Hummus Served with diced Tomato, Cucumber, and Kalamata Olives and Feta Cheese with warmed pita, drizzled with pepper infused Olive Oil; Seared scallops over foraged mushroom and parmesan risotto, finished with balsamic reductions; andouille sausage in a cajun spiced tomato sauce; artichoke lobster dip; some other stuff (I don't even remember it all). I won the evening when I took some of the mac & cheese (the bacon had already all been eaten off), and drizzled the andouille-infused cajun-spiced tomato sauce from that dish -- they were delicious together, and everyone else followed suit. and then a berry cream and shortbread "cake" like desert. I told everyone I wasn't much of a desert person, but everyone else was stuff by then, so I ended up having to eat most of it. I'm going to have to walk several miles every day this week to burn it all off.

  10. Toured Salesforce tower in SF, the 2nd highest building west of the Mississippi. Karl the Fog (yes, it has a name) was out in force but the views were amazing nevertheless.

  11. I had the same issue a couple years ago with my first amplifier build. I bought some 10m90s and DN2540 from ebay, with the result that my power supplies kept blowing up. I had no idea that there was enough money to be made selling fake parts. But I guess there is. Now everything is from Mouser or DigiKey.
