  1. New release day: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, XI: Bleed Here Now -- prog. Fantastic! Nice variety, very much enjoyed. Black Midi, Hellfire -- I'll be honest, I don't get Black Midi's rambling, free-form style. I just don't get it. I enjoyed it alright, but not something I'll ever resonate with. I'm not a lyrics listener, so that probably has a lot to do with it. Kekal, Envisaged -- pleasant surprise of the day! Absolutely ace, more Voivod than Voivod, (except Voivod's guitarist is still amazing) One from last week I forgot: Telekinetic Yeti, Primordial -- just a guy with a 7-string guitar and a drummer making music sounding much bigger than any twosome should be able to. Like a proggier, more stoner White Stripes or Royal Blood.

  3. That's what we used to call "The Stud" on Wednesday nights. That was a gay bar in San Francisco for the uninformed.

  6. Dropped the lake house car at the shop and had some time to kill, so I entered Willie's Rear... And I did like it.

  7. I was looking at this for a little while. My son ended up getting the version with the built in amp, but I agree it’s best to use an external DAC with it. I think it’s pretty good (not perfect) and my son is happy with his.

  10. Thanks for the suggestens. It turned out to be this… Two unsoldered pads inside amplifier to the right. The amplifier has been working all right for a couple of months, until now. Luckily, I noticed the two missing pads. No bad apple, just a poor soldering guy.

  11. Life's Been Good Turn to Stone -- all three-ish versions (familiar version from So What, live version from You Can't Argue With a Sick Mind, and the hard version from Barnstorm) Funk #49 Walk Away The Bomber Rivers (of the Hidden Funk) ...thanks, now I think I'm going to have to binge him for a couple songs...

  14. I have been getting back at this..working up to a limited run of these as the STAX SR-X9000 and Audeze CRBN have made that need to happen. But the chassis is extraordinarily expensive and difficult to produce, so I am working at ways to fix that. Also need to put it on the scale, thought it was 45lb but feels more like 60lb haha. It's really not that big of a footprint (13.5x18), but it makes the BHSE look like a toy. Power consumption is 190-200W depending on tubes, with 90-100W of that being heaters. The bottom of the amp is ice cold and the top is pleasantly toasty. The first 3 stages have recessed slide switches on top to switch 6.3 to 12.6v heaters, so common tube types are: 1st: 6SN7/12SN7, 12AU7 and many others w/ 8 to 9 pin adapter 2nd: 6SL7/12SL7, 12AX7 and many others w/ 8 to 9 pin adapter 3rd: 6N6P, ECC99, 12BH7A, possibly others such as 5687 w/ pin-out adapter 4th: Emission Labs 20B-V4

  15. ^ Yeah, I’m already in pre-withdrawal as there are only two episodes left. Mike White’s, I dunno what you want to call it, sympathetic ridiculousness, is so on and enjoyable and has been for him since the beginning (I’m sure his and his fathers history are relevant here). Not to mention the commentary. Going to have to go back to Chuck & Buck and Enlightened series again. Speaking of, hit pause on the HBO’s High Maintenance to consume the earlier, shorter, 19 Vimeo episodes, now on HBO as High Maintenance Web Series. I know this is going to sound like hyperbole, but I swear there may never have been a more compassionate series on American television. And it avoids corniness while doing so.
