  1. Went for a nice hike today. But the best part was when it was over. Karen informed me that she wanted to drive home. Not unusual, so I thought nothing more about it. As I was sitting in the passengers seat she asked me if I had any coffee left from this morning. That was a little weird as I rarely finish my coffee before our hike and she never asks me. I say yes and she hands me a bottle of her turmeric/ginger Kombucha. I looked at her quizzically and she just said, “open it up and smell it”. So I did, and it was definitely not Kombucha, in fact my nose immediately informed my brain that it was bourbon. So I poured it into my coffee and had a very nice ride home. Did I say that I love my wife?

  2. It's great that Doug is getting his due adulation as a designer, joiner, and woodworker. Not that it has been absent, but he doesn't share as broadly as some of us attention whores. His work is amazing and unique. I had the honor of helping him a bit with the first kitchen cabinet that was completed, and candle light or not, it was assembled and glued up between 1:00am and 3:00am eastern. One of the most frightening experiences of my life, but it ended well. That was the dry fit the night before the final assembly. Then tweaking and such. Doug can add the finished version, but these are incredibly intricate cabinets that look fantastic and could support a tank rolling over them. The new tile topped media cabinet is another level up.

  4. Nightly build Red LED indicates disengaged headphone. The green LED indicates power is on. Here red is out and headphone is connected. Next build… …a bi-color LED to replace the two above LEDs.

  6. Something else. This is a cube made for no particular reason - just thinking through an idea. This was a more hand tool intensive project, facilitated by the use of cypress which is very east to work.

  8. The base is birch which I get locally, because birch. The brown wood is English brown oak which is white oak from England that has been killed by a fungus that turns it brown. It's from https://www.hearnehardwoods.com/oak-english-brown-lumber-2/ I used it for my kitchen cabinets, and that bundle in the yard was one of 5 of those I bought. Pics of that later as I am still finishing the cabinet doors. And a detail on how the leveling feet work ...

  9. Next build – remove R1 ( don’t understand why I put it there – maybe because I’m an amateur) and R2 value is far too low, unless you want 40 mA through LED, so I switched to 1K. Small board 19mm x 15mm with the 555, a small PNP , three resistors and of course the bi color LED. Works perfect.

  11. Wait until you see his kitchen cabinets! And he's built them to easily take with them if they move. That's really smart to me, because I get really attached to things that I build for myself. Mostly because I don't get the time to do that often. I'm not generally a huge fan of Oak, but there are exceptions. White Oak items in a modern or Craftsman style, and now that English Brown Oak! I think it's been a couple of years since Doug introduced it to me, and I immediately fell in love with it. It is so rich and gorgeous! I really hope that someday soon Doug, Al and myself can work on a project together.

  13. Drank my Viognier and watched three coyotes saunter through my property. I need to post coyote etiquette hours for them to follow so I can enjoy my wine in peace. Cute and creepy all at the same time.

  15. Headphone protector installed and working. Delay time is 15 seconds, and it disconnects when offset is more than approximately +/-70 mV.
