  1. it’s a beast. i’ve been messing around on this Black & White El Burro geisha for a month and first v60 with the Lagom today produced far and away the best cup. ridiculously good acidity. the kind where it’s just pure fruit juice. also it doesn’t matter but i am glad i got red speed coating on the burrs because they look cooler with it.

  2. Your 2009 looks like it was more fun than mine. Also, this.

  3. I'd return them. Welcome to "high end" audio. I've never listened to the Atticus, or any other ZMF headphone. I know they have a good reputation, but what sounds good to one will vary for others. Don't buy expensive cables as they are generally snake oil, and as you note, no difference in sound. From your description, I don't think anything you might try (pads, cable, better amp, etc.) is going to get you where you want to go.

  4. I've heard back from the awesome forum member who's checking out the amp. They found that three of the four MAT BJTs were bad, which is why I didn't notice a difference when I swapped them around. They've replaced them, adjusted the output, and have the unit on its way back to me as I type this out. So, thanks again to them and everyone else here! I can't wait to have it back and look forward to hearing it without concern of that awful static.

  5. I've been going over some photos I took in October 2009, when I got my filthy paws on an 85L for a day or so. Even with my 30D's never particularly good sensor, I am amazed at what that lens can do. Any HCers who have a Canon body, you owe it to yourself to rend an 85L for a few days. It's among my list of things that lived up to the hype, which includes HD-650s (in 2004 terms), Ardbeg Uigeadail, Tapatio hot sauce, Citizen Kane and Biosphere's Substrata. These are some of the lesser shots I took in '09. I rejected them at the time, but I'm much better at editing photos now than I was then. I made heavy use of Topaz DeNoise AI, Luminar 4 and a totally paid for copy of Photoshop 2022. Not a very good shot. The vinetting is caused my OOF, unlit people in the crowd. They make an interesting framing device. It's just a mirror ball. Did I ever mention I took an 85L to a jello wrestling event at goth night? This shot was moments before this woman pulled the announcer into the pit with her. Unreality. Heavily processed with Topaz, Luminar 4 and a lookup table. This is is a very silly edit, but it does show off the 85L's wafer thin DoF but also it's glorious redition of OOF areas. That aspheric element is Japanese magic. Another not very good shot. The 30D sucks at ISO1600. Also the framing is awful. Again, the OOF areas are excellent. More unreality. I'm having fun with the 85L's tiny DoF (notice the Apple logos are not in focus, as is most of the laser.) I ran this one through Topaz, Luminar 4, then Topaz again. Lumianr's pseudo HDR processing really amps up the luminance noise. The woman who founded the NoHo goth night announcing the winner of the jello wrestling event. I denoised it and applied a lookup table, but the end result actually doesn't look that different than the original. I will win no awards for framing here. I've got a dozen or so more shots to go through and finish editing.

  6. Definitely my thinking and plan for the day. Timing is open to other people's needs. My daughter Sophie and maybe her girlfriend can join in the early evening, but not quite the afternoon. We could meet for a late lunch at Court Street Grocers for some amazing sandwiches and then walk to Other Half and then to Finback. There are other brewery options nearby that are not as great but people also like, such as Threes Brewing. It's a haul back to midtown near the meet location but it's worth it. 😁 Saturday dinner would be great to get a number of folks together after the meet. I haven't thought about location for that but maybe @Kerry or even @jp11801 might have some local knowledge.

  7. Looking forward to seeing everyone I’ve got to figure out my availability outside of CanJam, but will certainly be available for some of the extracurricular activities.

  8. Making strides to getting back on the air. First mater of consideration is where I'm going to set up a DJ rig. The second is the time. I think I'm going to still be on Fridays, but start an hour earlier. That means 9PM-11PM Eastern, then of course nearly an hour of yammering on the mic afterward.

  9. I’m at my partner’s for a couple weeks, so I travelled with the Niche and my little machine. Makes delicious espresso. I’m leaving the machine; Heather is interested in making espresso at home, in which case I should probably leave the Niche here and buy a Lagom P64, since I already have SSP multis in my Ode, which I could stick in the Option-O. The Niche and the little Breville fit in just fine in a busy kitchen.

  10. In the off chance anyone is curious about the above shows, hit both today and experimented a little with the 14 Pro Max, 48MP (then downsized on output), and ProRaw. The Fraenkel show I had to myself.

  12. Unfortunately I have had teaching schedule changes and other travel commitments near this date that pretty much ensure that I will not be there.
