I decided to test out the new electric razor's self cleaning pod. The old one sucked because after you opened the pod of liquid and installed it in the cleaning module, it would basically be good for one cleaning, as it would evaporate in a few days. And those cartridges are expensive. This new Razor has a better designed module, but still has a small slit for the liquid to enter the blades. I try not to give Bezos much business these days, but remembered these silicone lids for storage of leftover food. My Mother had some and I found a set of various sizes on Amazon several years ago, so... No more money evaporating into the air. Also several years ago on Amazon, I found these... You simply add a small portion to 70% rubbing alcohol, and you have very inexpensive cleaning solution that works every bit as good as the expensive pods. And the lemon scent is nicer too.2 points

I just upgraded my mom's mini-PC to Win 11 today, with Win 10 ending support this week. You can pay $30 for one more year of security updates, which was my original plan. But then you NEED to create an MS account, and use it to login to your machine. That was a no-go for my tech-scared mom. Upgrade went fine, though. Machine is a bit slower, but it'll hold for a while. I had a little fun with Ubuntu. I got a Celeron-based Chromebox for $25 from a used Electronics store in Maine a few weeks ago. I was able to download & install a new BIOS for it, upped memory and SDD drive ($50 total), and loaded Ubuntu on it. Still a tiny bit slow, so TBD if I'll keep it like that. It was just fun to play with the innards and BIOS of a computer again.....2 points

I can think of worse things than trump dedicating the next year of his life to winning a nobel peace prize. I hope he does, and I hope he deserves it.2 points

Ubuntu 25.10 was just released (October 9), too - probably worth upgrading the test system eventually (in my experience, new releases are very buggy for the first 4-6 months) - alternatively, Ubuntu 25.04 or the older 24.04 LTS will be more stable: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/10/ubuntu-25-10-new-features And of course, Flatpak doesn't work out of the gate: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/10/flatpak-broken-ubuntu-25-10-apparmor-bug For what it's worth, I am tech-scared too.1 point

Old DOS games on PC speaker, Ad Lib, and Roland MT-32 part 2 (skip the long preambles if you lived through the era - yes, we know Macs and Amigas had better sound):1 point

Looking at the CTR curve I would choose the operating range between 1 to 2mA of If. Since the nominal CTR is 20%, the phototransistor side would be designed around 200uA to 400uA. Adjust the resistors such that the desired normal bias voltage is centered around this range. The phototransistor could operate off the 110V supply if you don’t need the full 510V range for the bias adjustment (why would you?).1 point

I really like this album. The song selection... the way she plays. I've listened to it twice in two days. Good morning coffee music. She got a new fan. ex.1 point

Thanks Nate for the advice. I consume 5-6 liters of fluid on daily basis. Min 3 liters of water, 2 cups of coffee, 4 cups of tea. But about salt, yea I love salt. I have to reduce the amount I consume, I suppose. Gonna work on it. Also, I - at least - doubled the consumption of dairies since I became vegetarian (13 months have passed since I became one) to make up the amount of protein I need. Maybe that contributed as well. I took appointments for urology and MRI for next Monday. Gonna get a clear picture I hope.1 point

This has to be the week of stupid mods, cue this 727 in for full surgery and mods. Nothing abnormal on top but below I find this: Hmmm not quite stock that input wiring In and output wires from the volume pot were simply cut and this new monstrosity was sliced into ends. The plan was clearly to bypass the volume control but this is a 727... which has a switch to turn off the volume control and bypass it!! Just flip the switch the volume control does nothing... fucking hell... One more thing, can anybody make heads or tales of this monstrosity? That's two three conductor cables, basic mic cable would do the job but why set it up like this? Each conductor is screened and they are bridging it ever 10cm or so for moar cancellation? Ground for your ground... for your ground? Also, I'm not truly prepared for the 727 to be almost 20 years old at this point. The caps in this one had a date code from early 2007.0 points
