Our current dryer is GE and I'm not too fond of it. I am learning towards a LG or Samsung right now. I looked into Speed Queen but read a lot of mixed reviews. Parts seem like they may difficult to come by if they break. The Samsungs haven't been around all that long so I may go with an LG. The Samsung Al mentioned in not available here (it is a clearance model online so is probably last year's model). I was against getting a dryer with a steam option but it seems like you don't need to hook up the dryer to the water supply on some of them. It also seems difficult to find one that also has a dryer rack and steel drum without a steam option.

Whoa $5000??? That is crazy. That said, I don't think I'd be happy to wait a couple of months. We do have at least 10 mattress places within a short walk from our house (7 of which carry Simmons Beautyrest) so maybe we can use that to our advantage. I am not sure I would like something that firm Dusty. If I liked something that firm, I think I would just get a 4" latex topper and put it on a wood platform. Steve: I've looked at the products at Sams and Costco since they would be easy to return. However, I don't want to buy foam from companies whose foam isn't certified by Certipur or are made in China. http://certipur.us/pages/for-consumers/find-products/

I've looked into latex mattresses and they look good, although really really heavy* but my hubby doesn't seem to excited about getting one. I wonder if one can get a latex top on a spring coil mattress. That seems like it would work well. I do have a slight fear that I might be allergic to latex (I am allergic to most bandaids but that could be because of the glue they use). *which is not good if I ever get bed bugs again since you have to check your bed a lot. I've heard that Tempur-pedic aren't as good as they used to be but I read that on the internet so who knows if it's true. I do also need a better pillow. Ric: I'll be in the Bay Area in September but I'll probably want to get a bed before then.

I think it's about time to get a new mattress. I am having to sleep on my back because of my shoulder issues our bed is 9 years old. So I feel that it is not giving me the support I need (my back has been feeling sore and achey for one reason or another). I was looking at memory foam mattresses (firm or med-firm) but I am just not sure that is the way to go. We are probably going to do that or a good/firm spring mattress. We were happy with our Simmons Beautyrest for many years but the foam topping isn't holding up anymore on my side. Thoughts? I know some people here love their memory foam mattresses. I can afford a Tempur-pedic but only want to put out that kind of money if I know it is going to help my back. Also, I have read about some of them having mold problems in a short amount of time. They are also really heavy. There are a billion other memory foam companies and I have been looking into them. It is just hard to say how long their products will last, how good their foam is, what it will feel like...

I'll have to look into the Speed Queens - never heard of them before.

Our dryer is slowly dying. Anyone get a gas dryer that they really like or know models to avoid? I don't need any fancy smartphone technology shit, just one that works, doesn't break for a long time (or ever, yeah right), and get really really hot*. Unfortunately, they don't seem to publish dryer temperatures. I also don't want something with a steam feature. I would prefer to have a dryer with a detachable rack for drying sweaters, shoes, etc but that is not a necessity. Right now I am just looking at the top rated dryer at Best Buy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemplatemapper.jsp?_dyncharset=UTF-8&_dynSessConf=3604863170801698822&id=pcat17071&type=page&ks=960&st=categoryid%24pcmcat232900050030&sc=Global&cp=1&sp=customerrating+numberofreviewssaas&qp=soldby_facet%3DSold+By~Best+Buy&list=y&usc=All+Categories&nrp=15&iht=n&seeAll=&browsedCategory=pcmcat232900050030 *This is important to me, in case I ever get bed bugs again. I have been told that good dryers should get up to 180 degrees. Our current dryer only get up to 150 or so (putting a meat thermometer in the middle of the clothes for a few minutes, not with the dryer running of course, when they are dry and at their hottest).

The Brain Bag was far too large/heavy when I tried it but it was really built well. I am not sure how tall your wife is but I am only 5'2" (for reference).

I would just get a regular backpack and use a laptop sleeve (like Dan said). I would wholeheartedly recommend the Tom Bihn backpacks. I have been carrying the Tom Bihn Smart Alec nearly everyday for 3 years and it is still in nearly perfect condition. I tried out a Synapse 19 and it was a little too small for my needs but depending on what she is carrying, that or the larger synapse may work well. Both Synapse and Smart Alec are very light to start with and have very comfortable straps. The zippers are also really great and the backpacks are very water resistant. The synapse has more organization whereas the Smart Alec basically has one large compartment. I tried the Red Oxx backpack and found it (mostly the straps) to be extremely uncomfortable and very heavy even empty.

Replaced the broken shifter push knob on our car. I am always reluctant to fix car problems myself but this was an easy one*. Cost = $12.31! *Except, like usual, I did break a tiny plastic piece disassembling it but it doesn't seem to affect anything. We had to pick up the part at the dealer and while there we checked out (but didn't test drive) the new Accord 4dr and coupe. They are pretty nice looking, certainly a lot nicer than ours (from 2004). It seems really hard to get in the back seat of the coupe so we probably won't end up getting one (although I probably would if it were up to me since we don't have a kid). We also sat in (but did not test drive) the Ford Fusion at the dealer down the road. I liked the feel of the Accord better - the console is up really high in the Fusion. We'll probably do some test drives next weekend, Tim didn't feel like doing it today.

Computer build help
shellylh replied to crappyjones123's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
Most of the stuff I really want to compute, I do on our aging server (which is not all that fast) and I end up running for days/weeks and it never finishes (runs out of RAM or I give up on it). A slightly faster computer probably wouldn't help. I just sucks that Apple can't make a reasonably priced desktop with desktop class Intel chips (and a dedicated GPU). The old Mac Pros were more reasonable. -

I do wish Apple would make a desktop like the higher end iMacs without a monitor attached. This is the only reason I am thinking of doing a hackintosh. The new Mac Pros are great, just way too much money for me. It's such a waste to be throwing away a monitor every 3-4 years. -
I thought the point of fishing was to sit around and drink beer and hope not to catch anything because then you might have to do work.

Everything else that is valuable I put in the study and I'm keeping that room off limits. Hubby wouldn't let me put the "TV" speakers in there though. I don't think he's going to let me put a fence in front of it or something like that.
-
Nevermind. I just remembered that the speakers came with grills. Duh.
-
I have a 2 year old staying at the house this week and I am afraid she is going to want to put legos or some other toy in the front port of my Monitor Audio 6 (for some reason Tim wants to have her play right next to the speaker system). The speakers have front ports. Would it be ok to cover the front ports with some sort of light cloth for the week (while the system is on). This is the main tv setup so I can't put the speakers in a different room. I'm not so concerned about the sound but whether it could damage the amplifier. My guess is that is probably ok but will look like shit. I was thinking of using thin like a disposable dish cloth like this.
