Todd - that is most excellent! I don't know if I posted it at the time, but my co-worker who had been waiting forever and finally got his kidney and is now back at work and in better health than he had been in for years. Transplants, they work.

It's been years since I listened to this. Too long.

C.J., John totally nailed it. And he was so nice about it. You and your parents don't live in the land of arranged marriages to people of a particular race or nationality. You live in south friggin' Florida. That stuff just isn't an option here. They need to get a GPS and get over It. Dusty is right, too. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that your parents must be pretty darned smart people. (Although maybe not at this precise moment) Even if they put up a terrible fuss for a while, I doubt they'd take a trade as dumb as severing their relationship with you. It's not about culture, but I don't think my mother has ever been totally keen on Bonnie. But she's made the smart choice to be nice-ish about it for 25 years. Stick to your guns. It'll work out.

Best Covers
Funny thing. The Junkies cover of Thunder Road came up in conversation this weekend. Gives me chills, despite a certain weirdness factor. ... Margo Timmons singing Springsteen's part. Sweet Jane - agreed. And I like their version of Powderfinger, though some consider it a blasphemy.

Google Android OS
I have now returned to the stock Google voice feature for phone dialing. I can't remember why I rejected it first time around. It doesn't do anything but dial contacts, but it does that very well and doesn't hog resources or do anything bad, so I think I'll stick with it. I turned on the feature that keeps the screen alive as long as you're looking at it. It actually works and doesn't chew up battery. Pretty cool. And I finally have a case/skin that I'm happy with. It's a cheap polyurethane case with a couple strips of dense neoprene stuck on the back. Now I can handle the phone with some confidence. Depending on how you count it either cost all of ten dollars or sixty ) I'll post some pictures when I don't have a sleeping cat on my lap.

I have soft spot in my heart for the Carreras, particularly the first reissue, but the Zenith is pretty much beyond reproach.

Interesting. Rodina was a brand of - I'm fuzzy on this - either the first or second Moscow watch factory back in the day. I want to say the watch Gaugarin really wore - the one with the cheesy twisty band- was branded Rodina. Or maybe it was the export brand, I forget.

I don't think Nomos still makes that model. It was my favorite. Is the Rodina Russian?

Google Android OS
Ongoing, incremental S4 update: Zite now has a version that works with the S4. That's good because Flipboard was driving me up a wall. And I never did find a ringtone that I liked. So I got a copy of the Windows Mobile 6.1 default ringtone that was on my Motorola for years, edited it a bit so that it loops properly, and now I feel much more at home. MPI - I couldn't even hold onto to S4 without a case. It was like trying to hold a polished plastic playing card. Still haven't found one I really like, though. One of the tech sites did a drop test and the S4 basically shattered. The iPhone didn't break. That time. The next time out it apparently met the same fate. I guess cases are probably not a bad idea in general.
