  2. Too bad. Would have been a great deal.
  3. I personally wouldn't spend any actual money on an American style jointer. By the time you add a planer, it costs as much as buying a dual jointer/planer, it uses twice the space, and it leaves you with a jointer that's narrower than the planer which is dumb. The small cheap planers make sense for saving money, or the big standalone makes sense in a commercial shop with multiple people working at once, but otherwise I think they're pretty much always the wrong choice.
  4. I always found the opposite to be true. More constraints often yields more interesting results. We all live with the illusion that choice brigs happiness, but in fact choice makes us miserable. #prixfixe
  5. Probably not worth the effort. Even if they re-fix the part they did at their expense, which they obviously should, they'd have to find the actually broken bit which seems difficult since it takes it months to cause a problem. That I'd have to pay for, and I would rather not throw good money after bad at this point. And, the repair shop is a guy barely getting by fixing old TVs out of the first floor of his house. If he's honest, then he did his best and we took a shot. Life is hard and I don't need to make his any more difficult. And if he's not, then I'm not going to win anyway.
  6. Well then. We found a local shop to fix the Panasonic. They replaced the main board and it returned to service for about 3 months. It has now stopped working in exactly the same way as last time which suggests that whatever caused the board to blow is still bad. I don't think it's worth trying again. Too bad.
  7. Issey Miyake Dies at 84 https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/09/fashion/issey-miyake-dead.html Missed this a few days ago. Of significance for me as Erika had an Issey Miyake dress as her wedding dress.

If pretentious is a synonym for terrible, then we agree.

  11. Happy belated birthday. Hope you have a second good one.
  12. I really want to like this, but I can't listen to anything Steve Albini records. edit: I'll add that I like what SA has to say, I just don't like how he records.
  13. Ha! Is anything from my list then still in my list now? Maybe one. Probably none. I dare say I haven't listened to at least three of them since. edit: that said, I could listen to the Merry Clayton parts of Gimme Shelter daily for the rest of my life. The rest of it? Meh.
  14. Claes Oldenburg, a whimsical father of pop art, dies at 93
  15. As a bit of weird trivia, Cosey Fanni Tutti, one of the members of Throbbing Gristle appears as a dancer in the video.
  16. Should work fine. I'd prefer to separate the front and back end for roon with a separate streamer, but that's not strictly necessary. Also, roon will control volume so you can eliminate the parasound. No matter how good it is, you're probably better without it.

Spies don’t talk—it’s the cardinal rule of the business. But here at Foreign Policy, we get them to open up. On I Spy, we hear from the operations people: the spies who steal secrets, who kill adversaries, who turn agents into double agents. Each episode features one spy telling the story of one operation. https://foreignpolicy.com/podcasts/ispy/

I am finding season 2 to be unlistenable.
  20. Only thing I have to add is that I got to play around with a Contura once. Most beautiful camera I ever saw. https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/just-bought-my-“grail”-camera-contura-stereo-camera.170807/
