The Live Music Thread
I know, right? I'm excited to hear symphonic metal live without pre-recorded backing tracks.

My wife and I are seriously thinking about booking passage here.

I haven't laughed like that from reading HF in a long time.

Hey Head-Case, what's your bandwidth like?
Okay, now I'm jealous all over again. Damn city folk.

Hey Head-Case, what's your bandwidth like?
After: Not bad. Some debugging to do. I'm not sure why the ping is worse, but maybe cutting down a few trees between us and the transmitting tower will help with that.

Hey Head-Case, what's your bandwidth like?
This is the "before" speed test. We're getting upgraded to the new 4G tower in the morning. Can't wait to be able to click on a youtube video and not have to immediately pause to let it buffer, and minimize the resolution.

slower forum
I just finished listening to part one of Twilight of the Gods, a five-part radio doc about the history of records and the record business, on CBC Ideas. I highly recommend checking it out (you can stream it from my link). Part one discusses Edison's invention of the phonograph, his competition with Berliner's gramophone, and up until the rise to dominance of RCA-Victor. I'm probably describing it boringly, but it's very interesting.

Colorado Springs Wildfires, don't let this happen to you.
Wow. Take care, Larry. Get out well in advance if it's looking dicey. I remember a few years ago when they had crazy wildfires in Australia, people could not outrun them in their cars and were being burned to death trying to drive away.

Diagnosing wiring problems.
I think you're overstating their collector value, and overthinking your problem. I agree with the others if you really want to salvage them. Replace the cable entirely.

And now what did you do TODAY?
All four at once? That's brutal. My dentist just took two at a time, so I always had one good side of my mouth. I found the pain started to recede by the third day. I took Ibuprofen for 5 days or so, and that took the edge off nicely. Happy healing.

^Oh myyyy.

And now what did you do TODAY?
We're finally into calving season, and as I was checking on progress I noticed this beauty. Sorry for the crappy photo quality. I'm pretty sure it's an oyster mushroom. I harvested it, and will hopefully get to eat it once I rule out any toxic species. It weighs two pounds.

And now what did you do TODAY?
Fun times! Anything good under there? Sometimes you get oriented strand board, and sometimes you get solid oak, depending on the house's vintage.

What are you reading now?
Nice to see you posting on here, Kiro. I used to enjoy your shenanigans on HF, back in the day. I'm nearly finished this: He gives a broad and pretty shallow treatment (it's just one book, after all) of the nine major ways that humanity is making the planet unlivable for other species and ourselves, and suggests macro-scale solutions. He directs a lot of frustration toward the Green movement for getting in the way of pragmatic fixes, due to their unrelenting ideology and pursuit of utopia (opposition to nuclear energy, mostly). I'm really liking it, and I find I'm getting into an increasing number of arguments with people with whom I associated during my undergrad.

The new electrostatic headphones: JJ Float QA
Dude, you are being way too defensive about this unreleased product not to be somehow affiliated with the company. We don't give a shit about whatever hype you're trying to generate. When it's released, people will decide. Until then, you're off to a piss-poor start on this forum.

Whisk[e]y-Case
I tried the Yamazaki 12 a few months ago, and it was delicious. Don't recall anything about it right now, but if I get the chance to try it again, I intend to capitalize on it.

Your recent music purchases
Original 1986 vinyl pressing. It sounds kinda muddy (might just be the style they were going for), but it's a great album.
