  1. And remember: don't post anything until you have a higher post count.
  2. It appears that my wife is going to buy me a pipe and some tobacky for my birthday, as I've been wanting to get one for awhile. Can any of you pipe smokers advise what would be good tobacco for a beginner? I've never been much of a (tobacco at least) smoker, so I'm clueless. Here's the list of what the store has - anything stand out as a must-try? Burlington On Whyte Tobacconists
  3. Looks like a great little swiss army knife, and it would be a good price if I already had a Mac. A reference quality built-in mic is a neat idea.
  4. I stopped reading here: But in seriousness, I think most gen-xyz'ers don't care enough about liner notes and cover art to switch formats. It's all lamentably about portability these days, and cover art does nothing for the jogging-, bus-riding-, cycling-, walking-, etc-while-listening-to-background-music masses.

  7. Thanks guys, that's pretty much the short list I had, with a few additions. I noticed an M3 with S11 for sale on HF. I'll take a look at it.
  8. My mother in law wants headphone amp recommendations to incorporate into her speaker rig, and, having never had the opportunity to A/B different head amps (one of these days I must travel to a meet...), I'd like to hear what advice head-casers suggest I give her. Present Gear CD transport: Esoteric P-10 DAC: Esoteric D-10 Headphones: currently HD555s, but likely to upgrade to HD600s or HD650s. I'd like to keep things solid state because I visit frequently with a toddler (plus one more on the way), and her stereo rack is within his reach. I'm not a fan of her speaker rig's sound, but I suspect that's likely due to speaker placement more than anything else (speakers placed too close to the wall, which is 90% windows, with listening chair well back from the sweet spot - this is non-negotiable unfortunately, for esthetic reasons). It sounds both too cold/digital and not detailed enough to my ears, which have grown accustomed to my vinyl rig, but she and her husband quite like the sound. I suspect for that reason that she would prefer a more neutral amp, even though I would probably go for something that would colour the sound minutely towards the warm. I'm not sure what her head amp budget is, but I'll probably give her recommendations for two categories - under $500 and under $1000. I know people around here frequently like the Gilmore Lite, and I was thinking that would be a top contender, but I'd like to hear some other opinions. Your expertise is appreciated.
  9. Bloxorz is a good, free, online spatial puzzle game. I'd give you a link, but the website is blocked by my employers' IT crew.
  10. Currently smoking nothing, but when my baby makes his first appearance (due in the next couple of weeks), it will be Romeo Y Juliettas for me and my workmates.

  15. You can take everything I say with a grain of salt because I quite like the Senn HD600 sound. Until recently I had dt990s (05), which had nice punchy bass, more than any Grado I've tried (325i and below), but compared to the Grados and Sennheiser HD6xx the DT990s were a bit too recessed in the mids and a bit too strong in the highs/sibilant for my taste. At high volume they were fatiguing and a low volume they sounded really thin and tinny. That said, I have no idea what you should try, because I've pretty much only heard Beyers, Senns, and Grados.

  19. Relax Dusty, I was (mostly) joking - figured it was obvious, but I suppose I should have included a bunch of emoticons to clear up any confusion. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing this show and I'll leave it there. Sorry if I ruffled your feathers. Have a nice day.
  20. What, kick me out of this fine treehouse? Yes, I suppose you could if you so chose.
  21. That's reverse psychology isn't it? Don't worry, no matter how much bandwidth it takes, I'll post here regularly and update you on the degree of Dollhouse withdrawal I'm experiencing at any given moment.
  22. No, I want very much to pay for internet, but I live in a relatively remote location that is only serviced by dialup, which I do pay for out of desperation. I won't buy satellite TV because a) I'm poor as well as too damn cheap, and if I did I would spend too much time watching bad TV and not enough time whining on the internet.
  23. The fact that I cannot watch this show is killing me slowly. I have no TV reception at home, I refuse to buy a satellite dish (this is the only show I want to be able to watch, so what's the point?), and I'm on dialup internets, so no downloady. Waaaahmbulance please?
