  1. Awful news, Brent. RIP Sam. Gosh... so young.
  2. Very sad news, Todd. RIP Mike. Such a rough loss for his family and friends.
  3. Ackee and salt fish.
  4. Happy birthday, Shelly. (Steve, that was awesome.)
  5. From independent sources. Not intended as a theme.
  6. ^ Awesome bonding opportunity.
  7. Yup, now that the whole Kobe thing is finally over... I mean he was great and all, and his final game was amazing, but what a circus it has now become in professional sports with these season-long sendoffs. First, it was Kareem, and that was fun, but unfortunately (in many ways, although it's good fun in other ways) that started a trend that will never end. Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, even Paul Konerko with the White Sox. All franchise guys, so the local fans love it, but do we really need people selling bags of air from Kobe's final night at the Staples Center on eBay? Plus, it was about $5k per ticket, on average, for "normal" seats. Dunno. Just seems unnecessary. I like the Peyton Manning approach. Play your last game, and then a week later, say, "Ya, I guess that was it..." NBA Playoffs? I thought that didn't really matter until June? As with hockey, allowing 16 out of 30 teams into the playoffs is kind of silly. Honestly think that 8 would be much better, but then on the flip side, even more teams would then tank (and much sooner in the season) for draft positioning.
  8. I had seen this before, but it was fun to watch again.
  9. Holy fuck! This is just shocking. RIP, Prince. Way too soon...
  10. Yes, that's her! Sweet kid, too. They're from the Cincinnati area. His son goes by his first and middle names: The kids are both trying to make it professionally, but you know, odds and all...
  11. Dan is a good friend of mine from high school. He was the best athlete in our class, QB on the football team, leading scorer in basketball, and hit nearly .500 in baseball. He's a businessman -- a successful marketing guy, not a professional musician. But everything he does, he does well. Both his son and daughter are 20-something musicians, and trying to eek out a living doing so. 13. He should be unanimous, but you never know... there are a ton of voters and always a handful of homers. Nobody has ever won unanimously, but what he did this year was off the charts. Towns should also unanimous as Rookie of the Year, but almost for sure won't be. There are some real jerks in the New York media who will vote for Porzingis. My guess is that Towns will get 126 out of 130 first place votes, but deserves all 130 (assuming it's the same number of voters as last year). Glad I decided to watch the Lakers game tonight instead of the Warriors. Kobe was unreal in the 4th quarter.
  14. Curry obviously will win another MVP, but he really should be considered for the Most Improved Player of the year as well, as crazy that may seem. Scoring has gone up from 23.8 to 29.9 and he's shattered this own record for most 3s in a season (from 286 to 392 and a chance to get to 400 tonight). His assists are down a little but his rebounds are up so that's offsetting. Really, for anyone to go from 24 to 30 points per game in one season, you would normally say it's a breakout season!
  15. (Crying) Jordan Spieth at the Master's after the 12th.
  16. Don't forget that the Spurs have a chance to go undefeated at home, so they have their own motivation. Should be a great game. Imagine Curry hitting a 30 footer under the pressure of a double team (with his amazing handles) to win it at the buzzer?
  17. It was a brutal no call, but would have also been a brutal call in that situation. They're taught (from their early days as refs, not that the NBA would endorse it as such) to eat your whistle unless it's a patently obvious foul in the last seconds of a game. Let the players and the plays decide the game. Not saying it should be that way, but that's the way it is. On the other hand, the refs tried to steal a win from the Wolves against the Warriors as well with the phantom foul on Towns against Curry. So maybe there is something going on there, at least at a subconscious level since I'm sure the refs are as excited about the possibility of 73 as any other fan of the game is. Big game tomorrow night. Interesting how both teams (coaches and players) and toeing the company line of "Oh, it doesn't mean shit, these silly records, all that matters is winning championships..." and then the fans all go "Rah, rah, rah, that's what make Pops such a great coach" or "That's what makes the Warriors such a great team" they're all about the championships and nothing else matters! Even though we all know that 73 DOES matter and being undefeated at home DOES matter to them, no matter how much they try to pretend like it doesn't.
  18. ^ For sure, and what drama with so much pride at stake for both teams! 73 wins, or first ever to go undefeated at home for an entire season! Can't be both at this point!
  19. That was a funny clip. Man, I gotta tell you, this kid has been fun to watch all season long, but he's really been starting to come into his own during the past 6 weeks or so. He's got an endless arsenal of offensive moves and is always showing something new. I think he was just a little tentative during the first couple of months of the season. He still put up great numbers, but now he's showing more and more flair. He could be a Globetrotter, easily. Great handles and incredible footwork for a big man. This is kind of a touch spot to be in, because their last 4 games are anything but easy! Do you go all out trying to get 72 or 73, or do you forget that and give guys as much rest as possible? I know what MJ would do and what Kobe would do if there was a record on the line that still could be broken, but not everyone is made of the same stuff.
  20. You should get a pair of JH13 and an iPod.
