Driver for mid production K1000
I will do my best to post what I hear, but remember I am an "old phart" so my ears are not pristine! Also the two K1000's have S/N very close like 400 numbers apart. So unless a previous owner swapped the drivers they should sound close. Hopefully Fitz can post a picture of both drivers so we will know. Thanks again Fitz.

I am really looking forward to hearing them again, there are no words to fully express my appreciation for the work done. So thanks will have to do.

Fang's new orthos shipping
swt6 and Voltron if you would like to listen to my HE5 and the Solo SRGII send me a PM so we can arrange it. The only thing is that today I sent a bunch of stuff (including the Solo SRGII) to two members in Head Fi and the items will not be back until the first week in March. Note: My HE5's right ear-pad started to come undone yesterday. Specifically the cloth is separating from the plastic ring, same as another pair belonging to an HF member. I have been told by Fang that a new ear-pad is on the way so that is good!

Sure hope you all had a great time, specially making new acquaintances. Cheers.

What did you do today?
Packed a couple of boxes for shipping, did some minor mods on the EF5, and hung around posting in various forums. Darn, should have taken a nap!

Fang's new orthos shipping
Part II – January 24, 2010 Today I decided to roll some tubes on the EF5 starting with a TungSol 12AU7. I also decided to: [*]Remove the “cage” around the tube to facilitate the rolling of tubes. IMO the “cage” not only makes the rolling of tubes more difficult than it needs to but it also impedes cooling of the tube. Although in all honesty the tube in this amp barely gets warm. [*]I installed a Herbies Halo, not so much because it helps in all situations but because I happen to have a few laying around and they do look cool. [*]Like the EF1 I feel the Plexiglas “window” although nice to look at does not allow for optimal cooling. The EF5 does have additional cooling via slits on the sides and bottom. Nonetheless I opted to install an o-ring under each of the four screws holding the Plexiglas “window” thus adding an small air-gap all around it. Time will tell if it helps or not. [*]Replace all four plastic feet from both the power supply and the amp section. One thing that has bothered me a lot with both the EF1 and EF5 (it is nitpicking I know) are the hard plastic feet used. These feet do hold the amp in place when you insert or retract the

Wayne, how about an steel building? These can be purchased with hurricane resistance built in (to a limit of course) and if you have the space in the yard it might be an option. For example: Hurricane Resistant Buildings - Metal Buildings - Steel Buildings by American Steel Span Metal Workshops - Metal Garage Kits by American Steel Span Buildings

What the fuck?
Actually it looks very different, but I like it since it is clearer and easier to see. I almost forgot, the music sounds better by about 10% with the new layout. Thanks.

Grado HF-2 thread
I sold mine as well, IMO the RS-1 has much better extension and clarity. The low bass was deeper/thicker w/ the HF2 but not enough to keep them.

Post the last thing you bought!
A pair of Grado bowls and a JMoney V2 leather headband to spruce up an old SR80. Also a DIY balanced cable for an HD580.

Grado (ish) RS-60 impressions thread
Wish I had seen this before, sure sounds like a fun can to listen to. Of interest to me is the damping used (if any). Also the differences due to pads, I never warmed up to the flats preferring the bowls on all my listening sessions. Would love to see pictures!

Unplanned Ultra Mini Meet
IMO it sounds better than the GMP 435 S. I did not have them on for an indepth evaluation. Will talk to HiFlight to see if I could borrow them.

German Maestro GMP 435 S
I used the velour pads after logging over 135 hours of additional burn-in. The velour helped tame some of the energetic highs but the bass lost some of its definition. These were not my cup of tea and if I needed an open can in the $350 range or less I would go w/ a K501, HD580/600, or a Grado RS-2.

Small "inline" portable amps.
MASantos is your brother's iPod volume limited as per EU rules? If so see if you can reset the volume limit and he may not need the amp. If he still needs it the T3 by iBasso would be my suggestion because of its size and it is made for portables. I just loaned my T3 to Carl and he should be able to provide feedback in a couple of days. Cheers and good luck.
