Yes, but these are VERY small changes. Current capability can be increased wiht a different transformer (or multiple, as I recommend). Tube rectified means one mroe heater, and wire the tube instead of diodes.

P.S. The extreme isn't anything more than the Wheatfiled, which is nothing more than the VanWaarde (with a 6SN7 input tube) If it were me, get a builder to build you a VanWaarde. Change the input tube to 6SN7, and double the output tubes. Will drive low(er) impedances nicely, and really isnt all that costly.

Plastic and tube amps don't play very nicely most of the time. The last time i built a tube amp in a plastic case, I had to put in a small fan and make vent holes. The plastic was warping form the heat. I know you were joking, but IMO its not a good idea.

yes yes and have not found a need to optimize X. This is on my laptop. Fedora takes a bit more work, Ubuntu works right out of the box, everyhting honky dory. That said, I think the next desktop I purchase will be a mac mini, if I ever purchase a desktop again. I'd like to get my hands on an older macbook, though.

No fully functional. Internet, Office, amarok, etc. But I have a bit of experience doing it. The average user switching from Windows? Buy a mac.
