Finally Ordering AKG K-701's
I didn't think the 701s improved that much when I used them balanced, there was an improvement sure but it was not that drastic. Also I know you mentioned the 600s but the 650s are better balanced, even those that prefer the 600 single-ended prefer the 650 balanced for the most part

The "2006" Beyerdynamic DT990's
Has anyone tried the new DT990s yet? If so how do they differ from the old dt990 pros, also how do they compare with the likes of the 650's?

Stax Omega 2
If they were included as part of the standard amp and added those same costs to it I'd probably complain. But hell they are just options if you don't like the prices don't get them

Stax Omega 2
$1500 isn't that bad and those options aren't terribly priced either. Though I think the only one I would want is the always-on bias supply.

Pandora/Squeezebox
Yeah pandora is pretty sweet, I wonder how well it works with squeezebox. I'll have to get one and try it out I guess

Where is the "Next Ice Age" option??

Stax Omega 2
Yes thats another concern, something like an ES-1 is well outside the amount of money I'm willing to spend. I'd be looking at the 007t or one of the McAlister amps.

Sourceless
Well you know since it's working fine now, it won't work at all when it gets back to you. So the only question left to ask is when is the Viking Funeral?

Stax Omega 2
The Stax Omega 2's are headphones I've been interested in for a long time, and lately I've been getting the urge to buy a pair. Thanks to pricejapan a new pair would only cost about $1500 which is far cheaper they are from US Stax dealers. A few things are holding me back from pulling the trigger: 1) I'm perfectly happy with my current L3000 based rig, at most an O2 rig would be complimentary 2) The reported lack of bass impact compared to dynamic phones has always been a concern. I'd like to hear peoples opinions on the O2's and any comparisons to your favorite dynamic phones would be very helpful.

Custom IEM help/suggestions
Not sure if this is really possible or if it would even be cheaper, but have you thought about getting custom molds for your ETY's?

Stop bitching
It's real simple, that thread was locked because we do not want headcase to turn into a place that is used soley for the purpose of bitching about head-fi and its members. That thread was leading heacase down that path and I won't let it happen. Also you may have noticed an increase in the number of informative threads since that thread was locked. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Speakers for $1000?
For #1 and #2 on your list you'd be hard pressed to beat the Green Mountain Audio Europa in the $1k price range.

Brancing out .... how about some headphone recommendations?
How about the AT-AD2000? I'm told they share some sonic traits of the L3000.

Brancing out .... how about some headphone recommendations?
Earl, you could always sell off a few amps and buy a pair of L3000

New Power Amp Suggestions
There's actually an A5 integrated and A308 integrated on audiogon right now. I might check those out.

Great Audio Buys
Not exactly budget items but here goes... 1) L3000 - I get more joy out of this headphone than I do any other gear that I own 2) APL Philips SACD1000 - I had owned a number of sources prior to getting this player, even a couple in the $1k-$2k price range. None of them were even remotely close to being as musical as the APL SACD1000 is. Even now with my modded Opus 21 being an overall better player the SACD1000 still portrays female vocals with a sense of realism that I haven't heard anywhere else.

New Power Amp Suggestions
Haha yeah the rotel has a healthy amount of power and it usually goes for $1000-$1500 on audiogon so it's priced right. Thanks for the recomendations of the MF gear I'll keep an eye out for them used.

New Power Amp Suggestions
I'm in the market for a new power amp, preferrably something with 300+ Watts into 4ohm. I've been considering picking up a used Rotel RB-1090 it would certainly fit the bill powerwise. But I keep seeing all the various "Class D" type amps and their size and weight make them intruiging options. Out of the Class D amps the ones that caught my interest the most are ones based on the ICE Power modules (think the new belcanto amps) and the Hypex UCD Modules (think CIAudio amps). Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.
