It would be pretty cool if the Smyth Realiser could be used with the iPad. I suppose that's a no go though, right, because the iPad and Podz can't output 5.1? Although, I do recall reading that you could record something through the Realiser and then jam it in your iPod and play it that way, but that sounds like a pita.

Good points, those. I guess there's also just a certain amount of "giving in" here. I am convinced that Apple has created a game-changing device, which sometimes necessarily means you throw out your preconceived notions about what you think you need and just embrace the benevolent fascism of Apple.

Although he does touch on one issue that I sort of agree with: does the iPad feel like a First Gen device? I get the lack of expansion ports. But the widescreen "issue" is odd. And I also agree that the lack of a camera, while not fatal, is a noticeable omission. I guess one of my concerns about spending this much money on a Gen 1 device is that the next gen will smoke it--and within a year. I know this is the price one pays for early adoption, but it still kind of sucks. Of course, balancing this concern are countervailing forces such as: 1) I want it yesterday; 2) I still use a Gen 1 iPhone; and 3) I am an impatient man.

So I'm not sure I get this. If I want to tether my ipad to my VZW droid eris, I need to convince the ipad that the eris is a WiFi router. Fine. But does that mean I can "route" over VZW's 3g?

I guess I didn't realize the Pre could be used for this purpose. So could I use my Verizon Eris with an unjailbroken iPad?

Ah, I see. Then how does the iPad "see" it? Also, how does it work with Shelly's pre?
