Make your own multiwire cable. Thats what I did, using 600 V cables, all different colors to avoid errors.

go to eBay and look for old amphenol connectors. These site has some too but don't know about the quality: http://www.vt4c.com/shop/program/main.php?group_id=3&cat_id=1015#1003

1. Any advantage of Teflon over PVC? 2. Also, would like to know which insulated shrink tube you guys recommend.

You are making good progress. Keep it up! If both rails work in the pSU and both amps worked fine, it's just a matter of wiring everything together. Just be very carful and triple check all your wires. I usually check outlaid the components and wiring agains each end, and do it more than once. And never do it when you are tired.

Megatron Electrostatic Headphone Amplifier
I swapped to 12AU7 from left to right sides. The intermittent hum still happens only on the right channel and it's intermittent of temperature or use time. Sometimes it happens within 5 minutes and sometimes it takes 2 hours but invariable disappears when I shut down the amplifier, but it comes back again without regard of time or temperature. Otherwise it sounds great in between humming episodes. Any ideas?

I usually hide behind a wall. Safer that way. I have had a couple of nice explosions, more like firecrackers if you ask me, and the occasional green smoke, but I have never had a major fire. Seriously, I do wear goggles if I am a little concerned I know it is scary at first, but if you triple check your build and check as JoaMat said it should (usually) be OK. Powering up is actually the highlight, the rush of your build. Have fun!

You guys then need to listen to Glenn Gould. His humming is unmistakable and easy to follow with the Megatron and the 009

Chip Quik has worked great for me w hen desoldering heat sinks. It may work for Teflon tube sockets too.

I may be able to go to a small meet if I don't work that weekend. Need to drill a few holes in my Megatron before I take anywhere though.

I was there last year. Frank's amplifier sounds wonderful. I really enjoyed it. Milos always brings good stuff to the meets. There are maybe only 1-2 other DIY guys; Andy was there too. The rest were vendors. Nothing against them, but things like the Hugo or other FOTM drives me crazy. They give you a raffle ticket if you go to their booth and at the end of the day the raffle is on. None of the younger ones know what a solder gun is.... very sad.

I received several 4686 I bought from UTSOURCE and with the DY294 and they test at 1180 or so. The thing is it measures the same even if the transistor is not being tested. What gives?

Megatron Electrostatic Headphone Amplifier
Well, I checked everything and could not find anything wrong. No more hums though. Not sure what it was. The 009's sing nicely with it. Have listened to them for hours at a time without trouble. And the temperature on the top panel is between 53 C on top of the transformers, 63-66 C between the big tubes, 51 C on the front and 57 C on the back of the top panel after a couple of hours.
