The problem doesn't tend to manifest itself when the above mentioned precautions are taken. The caps seem to act as a bridge to accomodate the short path when in contact with the pcb. It does look like that the +/- traces are way too close together to handle these high voltages. Hopefully the new "mini" boards will be an improvement.

Run a search in this thread for "star ground". It has been discussed at length. My KGSSHV has zero discernable noise, never did. It just blows up all of the time. Another common theme with this amp. I hope your trafo is robust enough and that the large HV lytics on the PSU are stood-off or insulated with kapton tape!

The were not used (then). They were stuck in customs at that time. EDIT: I was referring to the recent 7/20/13 Cali meet. There were two other recent Cali meets. One near Los Angeles in Newport Beach and another near San Francisco. None reported that the King Sound was present at those meets. They did make a showing recently at a New York meet. So yeah, there is a used set out there.

Hmmm...........I see a stray solder glob stuck to the chassis. Need I say it? Nice work Frank. I loved listening to that amp with the LCD-3. Your home grown open frame stat amp with the 507's was no slouch either.
