  1. I live in Southern California and have not found anyone competent or trustworthy in fifteen years of searching. Thanks for the AudioK reco I never though of that, will give them a try. Thanks again.
  2. Thanks loads for the tip Dusty. Now I need to find a local modder because shipping this beast back and forth would cost a bundle.
  3. . You might want to consider the newer technology. It is easier, generally makes for a more precise shift, and less distracting. I will never go back. Also, as we get older, if you can't train harder, go lighter. Dew eeet!!!!
  4. It's a 54 with Dura Ace components and the DeutscheTelecom color scheme so you gotta know it is pre Y2K. Not that I want to talk you out of anything but I can't imagine buying a 21 pound bike in this era. My Calfee is 16 pounds and a world of difference on a ride with 2k of climbing. Thanks for not laughing though. My post was a intended to be a comment not trying to fish for buyers but since you asked....
  5. Well I have been planning to purchase a upmarket USB DAC for a while now but keep getting distracted with other good deals along the way. My current plan is if I sell my Merckx road bike I can then afford the Consecant.
  6. Dusty, Your post got me to thinking, I have a mint condition Pioneer SX 1010 in my office which I haven't used in years, would it be worth upgrading caps, RCA and speaker jacks? I would use it as a second office system, front channel for home theater or bedroom system. It has bridged connectors so that it can be used as just a pream, amp or PHONO PRE. What dayah think?
  7. Yes, my hero. He had five TDF wins, no drugs, no cheating and makes a great very heavy racing bike.
  8. ....an expensive, over-hyped, illiterate, pedantic, digital snake oil perhaps?
  9. I would have to hear one before I would consider buying, and based on many comments, actually hearing one will probably never happen. For now my office computer, and Wavelength Consecant would serve my needs just fine thank you. If I can just get someone to buy my Merckx....
  10. I would tend to agree with Dusty here (did I say that?). I have found at around $2K-$2.5K and up the differences become more than subtle. Both choices provide a "different" experience and one is not necessarily "better" than the other IMHO, just different. Sometimes I like to sit down and feel all of the instruments and the emotions of the singers that I get with my new tube headphone amp, other times I like to sit in my living room listening to Miles or Monk and feeling the band right there in front of me and the audience around and behind me as if I were in the club. Each medium has it's place for me and I find I switch back and forth often as my mood dictates. Reks, to paraphrase my Gov. "You'll be back", then again Theils rule for now.
  11. Seems perfectly reasonable to me....
  12. Hey, don't knock child labor. It takes tiny fingers to make those tight braids you know.
  13. K701s to cross reference my W1000s on the Trafomatic Head One, also to serve as loaners at the next So Cal meet. Oh and a nice Valentines day surprise for the wifey. How does the saying go? "one for me, four for her".
  14. Better yet, a southern HaiKu...
  15. You sound like a public service employee entrance exam...
  16. Well I sold my Eddy Merckyx for my Trafomatic Head One, so I don't think anyone on this forum can argue with me that that was a good choice. No road bike can compete with the sound of a good tube amp. BTW, I am a little premature is stating that the Merckyx is "sold", actually " may have a buyer and I am taking bids"..... (note to self, now go read the HC thread about posts on the HF site, the RS1 in particular)
  17. EPILOGUE: Well I purposely let the issue die down so that I wouldn't let myself get caught up in my excitement. I have been traveling for the past two weeks so I have spent some time away from the Head One. I am back in town for a few weeks and I now have about thirty hours on it, not a full burn in per se but enough to say that I like this amp more and more. Next to the EC/SS which I found very revealing and detailed, the EC/SS seems a little too forward and imparts a bit of glare to the music. This is only noticeable since I have been back in town and I am taking the time to A/B the two amps. The Trafomatic has a nice smooth mellow character with a deep and wide sound stage. When A/B ing, the EC/SS seems to be a little to fast and forward whereas with the Trafomatic the music seems to envelope you. I guess the mellow characteristics can be attributable to those crazy KGB sponsored tubes. I hope we can pull off a summer meet here in So Cal (as rumored) so that others can comment on their experience with this amp.
  18. I win for the most real time post. As of now, because I just got off the phone with my wife after she informed me what a nice guy I am for buying her something; I just bought my wife a bracelet. I am cool with this because I just bought a new amp and I was feeling kind of selfish and guilty.
  19. I demand a recount! And what about the absentee votes?
  20. Anyone willing to take a look at my wiring job to see if I screwed up? This temporary DIY failure is killing my ego.
  21. Almost three weeks late but Trafomatic Head One amp. I am very happy with this purchase which means unfortunately the EC/SS must go. Hopefully we can pull off a So Cal meet this summer so I can get some other opinions...
  22. Grawk, Know any medium's? How about a seance with some Bill Evans?
  23. I use an Elvis statue I bought at a garage sale. Interestingly enough, Grados are the only cans that seem to fit on the King's head.
  24. Somehow I get the funny feeling that in a few years once the public discovers him, I will not be able to afford any of Justin's amps at all. I was wondering if he will consider offering futures on his amps. For example we could purchase a futures contract today for delivery of a yet to be thought of design for six years from now. Justin.....are you there? Whadddajaaaa say???
