If you own iem's in the custom ranks the Toma can be your best friend. The two major sonic gains I get with a toma and the Sensa's are absolutely no power noise (every single amp i heard with my sensa's gave me this to some extent.). and the sound stage is seriously amazing, custom iem owners used to complain about sound stage cause everything at first is locked in your head...the Toma the sound goes all around you. maybe it's cause of the low power output everyone here says the Toma has, people here will rip the toma cause of it only to forget what a good amp will give you over any receiver (quality over quantity). in San Jose a headphone company spokesmen actually asked me the newbie question of hifi headphones which was "why do you need a dedicated headphone amp?" i was pretty buzzed but i think i eventually said it's about the quality of the amping and not the quantity. if you are going to use the Toma to power anything else then custom iem's or the higher end of general iem's then your stupid...its no ones fault but your own for being that stupid. lot's of people seem to blame the crowd for talking them into the amp and they sit there using the Toma with headphones. that's like driving a Ferrari 430 in the snow and wandering why people hype the car up so much, if the moron used the product how it was INTENDED then they may feel a bit different about the car..or product in this case. custom iems are weirdly sensitive products, give them a powerful solid state amp and your guaranteed to have some power noise (the ps audio was the worst at this), and if you give them a tube amp then you don't get the full high frequency cause of what Shure, Sensaphonics, and others have told me to be from the 4ohm armature drivers used for the highs. so you can not use tube amps or most solid state amps with the fuckers perfectly, then how do you do it? give the amazingly low power (according to people on this site) that is voiced with a wide sound stage? it is what it is...

last i checked my ears where not on your head.. you seem to have forgotten why most people are in this hobby. its not Brand, design, looks, etc... its sound, sound they Enjoy..not you... you think Meridian is this or that then you rock with it but don't try to act like the audio god of this world. the g08 makes me happy and so does my RSA stuff..

I never understood why people in general are so against opamps, then again i never really cared to look why they are. to me the opamp in idea is a newer technology version of discrete.. i choose the product for the sound not because i have a belief that this type of product can not sound good or something of that nature. as far as the g08 having opamps i couldn't care less, its the sound i like not the pretty colors on the boards inside.... your ears don't give a fuck what circuit or whats in the pretty case. its the bias you set up in your memory that does...

if this was available at the beginning of last summer I would of praised Wadia's name all over for saving me the hassle using the external hard drive. don't get me started on the first external hard drive i bought and had to return to BB...yet they fought and fought with me until i got the regional manager on the phone.. "we don't accept returns on defective Hard Drives.." WHAT?? hell thinking about that shit to get a decent setup at work using the i-Tunes/i-Pod I experienced back then I would of probably paid Double for the silly adapter.

I think they both where the Original blue ones, umm they both were not the M mod versions as the comparison came before the m mod for the hornet. I actually had a lot of fun comparing those two amps, I compared them both after they had about equal hours on them, had one m modded then compared the m mod to the original head to head, and when i finally got both in the m mod version i did another comparison between the m mod amp with hours to the m mod without hours (as they say the caps are what needs the hours). but to answer your original question i would say this is the only way to really know if there is a difference yourself. if you want to believe in burn in or not after you compare the two is up to you. of course if you post the answer people may not believe you..as seen here. it's easy to do such a comparison cause most companies have a 30 day return. buy two and a/b them right off the bat to make sure they sound the same (they should), then throw about 10 days worth of hours on one then compare the two, after that throw ten days on the other to see if they sound the same again like they both did with no hours. you will still have 10 days left to return one or both but just make sure you take lots of notes and keep your test setup the same for all tests (same gear, same cables, hell even the same seating position, etc) so the only variable in the three comparisons in the amount of hours on one of the amps in the second comparison, the first and last test both amps should sound the same to prove to YOU it was the hours you heard.
