That doesn't really sound right.. the SA5000 has a pretty wide soundstage. The rest could be ~correctish my memory isnt as sound in those areas.

It sounds like, though, only the 600 ohm Beyers would benefit from this standard and the market that owns those cans is absurdly small. By including the feature as standard you risk newbs using it and feeling your amp sucks with their less demanding phones. I'm not saying this will happen for sure or anything... just mentioning the possibility.

No it isn't in production and no it doesn't do 24/96, but generally I compare to in production things since it's what people are familiar with and what is most available to them. I realize it isn't an apples to apples comparison but.. shrug how many people have heard either a parasound or an audio alchemy dac. I figure it's better to relate it to something they have heard rather so there's some form of context even if it isn't a completely level playing field.

Yeah I more meant versus in production dacs. There are certainly other vintage competitors. Hrm what do you mean more moddable? The Parasound DAC1600 should be moddable in the same fashion as Filburt's Assemblage DAC2.6 and JP's trans dac and should show similar dramatic improvements.

Yeah the 1500 has nicer pcb/jacks and I think accepts one more coax input or something along those lines.. but uses a crappier digital filter (Not the PMD100) which supposedly has sonic implications outside of just not doing HDCD.

I think the Northstar DAC was pretty close to the 1100 to Deepak's ears and he sold the Northstar and kept the Parasound. Frankly I haven't heard anything in the 1k range that really comes close.. maybe the PS Audio Digital Link III with culen mods (not sure what the mods really bring to the table but I've never heard it stock). I wouldn't really blame the seller per se for bad info since the Parasound page is wrong and the seller probably doesn't know any better since he didn't open it up or really do research on it.

Decent price. Yeah nothing much to look out for.. it is built like a tank and with massive redundancies/overkill built in supposedly. I guess open it up and look for signs of mods (Things that look out of place) make sure the PCM63 and PMD100 are in there that's about it.

I dunno that's nuts to me. The HE90 have huge wow factor.. that fluidness, richness and effortlessness is very wowing. When I had R10s (bass heavy) with the SDS specially tuned for it (Ask Riceboy how that pairing works out) even they didn't wow me as much nor nearly as immediately.

I dunno there are two different definitions of accurate being thrown around.. accurate based on distortion levels measured and accuracy with regards to the original intent of the artist. Which do you mean in your conversation with this British(?) mastering engineer? Also when he says he lost accuracy is that quantified with #s/comparisons or is that just his gut instinct?

Wow fear his headphone system... AKG K-701 headphones with Ken Ball Alo audio upgrade and dunno about that Channel Islands amp either. Woo6 isn't too shabby though.
