  1. The small ones usually don't have a split volume know but some do have a built in balance control. What we could use are detailed pics of the circuit to see if you can take some measurements to see what's going on.
  2. The cable has a copper core but a thick layer of silver on top of that, similar to what APS and others are doing. It's probably a fine cable but I don't buy into that it has changed the sound this much. I'd rather say that the SR-404LE uses the same drivers as the SR-SC1 and thus sounds more like the older phones. The thinner pads might make a difference but on the SR-404 I modded I also used the newer, thinner pads and they sounded pretty much the same. I would like to try the cable on a SR-007 though...

Well that and we just eat fast food most of the time. There are 12 Subway's in Reykjavik, 4 KFC, 7 Domino's, 3 Pizza Hut and the list goes on and on in a city of 200.000. That's not a bad piece but it reflects the atmosphere of the time it was written in. After a year of what could best be described as parts of Orwell's Animal Farm things have moved on a bit.

  15. Thanks for that. The black socket just looks odd on there...
  16. I just did a quick search and couldn't find any but it's no problem to pick up one when I go to the local electronics store. I'm there pretty much every day...
  17. With electrostatics there is always the possibility of repair.
  18. No idea, way too many variables.
  19. I might even have an extra DIN plug somewhere if you would need it.
  20. I had a set once which would only work properly when fed by the N-1000 adapter. If I hooked it up to a Stax amp then the bias came and went. Very strange hence me being curious about any issues.
  21. Problems with ET1k's?
  22. That does bring up a question in my mind, why doesn't Craig transform one of these amps into a Stax amp by simply using different output transformers? Many people like to use the SRD units with SET amps so why not cut out the two high ratio transformers and just use one low ratio unit.

    Oh snap indeed!
  24. Very strange indeed. One plausible solution would have been oxidation on the tube pins which was scraped off once you reinserted the tubes. A stretch though...
