  1. Edit: Ahh ok.
  2. That does bring up a question in my mind, why doesn't Craig transform one of these amps into a Stax amp by simply using different output transformers? Many people like to use the SRD units with SET amps so why not cut out the two high ratio transformers and just use one low ratio unit.
  3. Oh snap indeed!
  4. Very strange indeed. One plausible solution would have been oxidation on the tube pins which was scraped off once you reinserted the tubes. A stretch though...
  5. Was the bias far off? DC on the stators could certainly cause some audible issues..
  6. Center tapped output transformer then, same as the TTVJ amp.
  7. That should never be an issue with the 6CG7's in this role.
  8. The amp is certainly SE only but if it has a transformer output then that can be balanced.
  9. All Stax tube amps (post 1980's) have a 30 second delay so you will never hear any sound with cold tubes.
  10. You can certainly hear a whole range of amp related effects through the phones so start with swapping the tubes.
  11. Owww, my brain hurts!!!
  12. Wallander 2x01
  13. Parts for the ES-1. Shinkoh, Riken, PRP, Kiwame and Mills resistors with Mundorf Supreme coupling caps.
  14. I built both of my amps so YMMV but the KGSS loses some of the intimacy and presence of the BH plus the sheer power it has to push that small bit of mylar. The sheer convenience of the KGSS is hard to deny which is why it's going to be my next desktop amp which can be run for most of the day without excessive heat or catastrophic tube failure ever being an issue.
  15. It should be better then being part of the United Socialist Republic of Europe.
  16. Not paying isn't really the issue here, it's more like paying huge interest rates to the UK and Holland which is the issue and the left wing government trying to shove a terrible deal down our throats. First off, the people sent to negotiate were utter fucktards, washed up communist (as in long live Stalin) put away over the recent years in some meaningless government positions. We didn't even sent lawyers to do this and it has been well established that the fucktards didn't understand all of the treaty due to the legal language it is written in. Then it was put in front of the parliament to be rushed through and nobody was even allowed to see it at first. Then the government backed down and said the official review agency would take a look at the deal and give the MP's a review of sorts. Against a stiffening opposition they finally released the treaty but only parts of it. Now the lawyers stepped in and said the treaty wouldn't stand in the courts here as it threatened the independence of the nation. The government still pushed onwards and after months of fighting and making compromises it was to be voted on a week ago. The night before a British law firm stated to send reports they had which showed a lot of sinister things going on behind the curtains. The worst part was a request from the head of the negotiation committee asking the British lawyers to hide their finding that we could fight and win this matter in the courts from the Icelandic government. They all objected and said they law firm was working for the opposition in the parliament. What a ridicules claim as the lawyers were just protecting their own ass in case this data would prove to be valuable later on and they thus liable. Ok have to run but here is the matter in a nutshell. We have nothing against paying this even if it is comparable to the US paying now for all the wars it has fought since Vietnam in one go. The PM is a lesbian and a not too distant relative of mine. Utter fuckwit that.
  17. Yup, 62207 when I checked just now. On Dec 1. there were roughly 320,000 people living here so quite a good portion of the nation. Some 1000 people signed a petition for him to approve the legislation...
  18. Shipped out the T2 and then took the car in for an oil change. While it was up on the lift I managed to fix the exhaust system which rattled when the engine was running at low revs. Turns out it was loose from one of the rubber mountings so slight manhandling and it was good as new. Stupid VW's and their low ground clearance... Then I watched the president of Iceland partially redeem himself in the eyes of the nation by refusing to sign a piece of legislation that would have made us bankrupt and killed all economic growth for the next 30 years.
  19. You know it is just UP-OCC wire which isn't that expensive. DIY time!!! Not up to spec if you prefer but really they are broken.
  20. That would be the curse of the PS1000, many of the units shipped out are just broken. With Bob I'm never sure...
  21. My NOS dac had wood trim and is filled with BG's and Rikens. Must be moar awesome then any other... It isn't a bad little dac though
  22. Holy crap, the mythical 7N? Say it ain't so!?!?!?!
  23. According to the PS1000 fan club then there is a large level of hit and miss when it comes to the sound so you really have to buy more then one set to get a good one.
  24. 6N to quote the cable makers...
  25. That's one way to do it but voltage multipliers don't like a load... at all.
